Oakley's Diary...comments VERY welcome!

Alright, after no success in eating healthy, I have decided to try a food diary...online for everyone to see!

Please, feel free to scold or praise all you want. I usually think its funny when i eat a lot...i rarely feel bad about myself. I just want to get healthy...so dont worry about hurting my feelings ( i think i need a good slap in the face every now and then!)!

Also, i dont measure things out at all...so tell me if i should be including more/less details. Should i say the protein/carb amount etc? or just the calories?? advice very welcome, as i have never ever managed to keep a food diary for one full day (i tried a few times!)

My current stats are:
5'3'', 19.6% body fat, somewhere btwn 115-120lbs ( i dont own a scale...)

So here i go...starting with this morning:

I was late for class, so i had a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch w/ 1/2% milk at 8am

according to the box, that is about 170 cals (im guessing i'm more at 200)

ok...thats all for right now...im starving though, so i'll keep this updated (i promise, i wont make every entry a single post!!! but for starters, i just may have to :p )

Oakley-

This is my first post! I couldn't resist. I just found this forum and was about to start an online journal but thought I would check out a few others first. Yours was the second one I checked out and saw that we have virtually the same stats and the same problem-food!

Well, good luck on you quest and feel free to pop in on mine!--I am going to name it "redefining me".

I'll definately check it out! good luck to you too :)

and to update my day...

~1pm:

tortilla w/PBJ
Tortilla: 90 cals
7% fat (all mono/poly)
13%sodium
3% carb
15% fiber
5g protein

Peanut Butter
200 cals
25% fat (15% saturated)
5% sodium
2% carb
8% fiber
7g protein

Jelly:
75 cals
6% carb

Along with it, i had some iced tea (10 cals), about 10 cherries and 20 green grapes (i cant even belive i counted those out, lol)

and i am currently really hungry :(

so i ate a granola bar...cause i was too hungry, lol

120 cals, 5% fat (5% sat fat)
4% sodium
7% carbs
4% fiber
2g protein

and just now, i had a smoothie with a frozen banana, and about 1/3 cup of frozen strawberries/raspberries/blackberries, with just a little milk added. I have no clue what the nutrition facts are for that, lol

oh boy, so i thought i had a good start yesterday...but that was ruined by dinner, lol

I went out for dinner and had a personal pizza (buffal chicken)...im not sure of the nutrition facts on it... I think i might stop by at some point and ask, cause it is a really super thin crust, so it just may not be AS BAD as i think it is.

But oh, it got worse from there...i had a mint chocolate chunk shake from Ben & Jerry's. I didnt drink the whole thing....i left behing most of the whipped cream, and my bf drank some too

And right now, the start of a new day...i am having a bowl of Kashi cereal :)

Sorry to hear about your night. Restraunts can be soooo hard, and soooo many yummy temptations! But like you said, today is a new day! Have a plan and work it...you can do it!

Im going to be making Rachel Ray's "Oven poached salmon a la paige with dill, vidalia onion and cucumber relish"

Hi Oakley!
Welcome to journalling! Having a journal is a great tool to give you a good look at how you're doing overall and how you change.
I know you are just starting to look at how you eat, so eating is not going to be nearly perfect. How about trying to eat a few less processed foods? Food are best when they have not been altered from their natural state. I think you could also use some more good lean protein sources.
You're making a real good effort to star. It takes time. I used to eat nothing but junnk food. Now I consistently eat healthy, balanced foods with lots of unprocessed stuff. It just took time. Let me know if I canhelp at all.

OOOOOh, you're making me hungry, the tortilla and salmon sound yummy!
It looks like you're already making better food choices! I know for me, cold cereal, granola bars and things like that set me up for binges. I think it is the sugar count and the fact that they have a lot of carbs with zero protien!

Keep it up the great job, one step at a time!

Sandy

alrighty, so i kinda forgot i was supposed to be keeping track...ill try to remember as much as possible...

i actually made the salmon and it was sooooooooooooo soooo good!!!

For a late night snack, i had soybeans, cherries and grapes (not that much of any of them)

Saturday:

bad...lol, i had crumb cake from a box...yummy though :p
for lunch, i was at an engagement party and was snacking on things like crackers, fruit, cheese, some broccoli stuff (which was really good, and probably really unhealthy), i also had a little champagne and a corona. I defeinately didnt get anywhere near filling myself up.
My bf and I went to the movies, but we were both so hungry, and had no time, so we stopped at mcdonalds and had a dbl cheeseburger (thats all :p no fries or anything)

after, as a late night snack, we had more soybeans and also some snow peas.

Sunday:

tiny tiny piece of crumb cake

sushi (california rolls, sunday morning rolls and chicken teriyaki rolls)

met up with my family, and it was bad news, haha. We went for a "snack" and shared nachos with cheese, chicken and black beans, sweet potato fries, and then some dessert. I had some ice cream with some fried fruit...not much though

Right now, i am eating a smoothie (frozen berries + 1/2% milk), and a piece of string cheese

Good luck to yo Oakley! Have you joined fitday? I just joined and it's a big help...lays everything out for you, I hate to count calories but it's nice to know what I'm taking in lol

well, go to You can personalize it. Right now I just enter the foods I've had and it calculates the fat/carb/protein ratio. I don't know how accurate it is but it's better than going blindly like I was doing :)

Thanks moonbeam! Ill take a closer look at that a little later! It looks really cool!

I figured I'd better catch this thing up before I completely forget...

So starting with Lunch on Monday the 5th:

around 9, i had a coffee...called "the milky way", lol, so lets just say, it probably had a lot of calories (i was just DYING in class...and coffee and my stomach do NOT agree...so only the really sweet, junky kinds work, lol)

i then had (around 1) a smoothie (the usual frozen berries w/milk) and a string cheese. (and then went to the pool until 4, and got burnt :( )

around 4: soybeans, 2 string cheese sticks, a freezie pop, and like, literally no more than 3 ritz crackers (just trying to finish them up!)

I then went running for 25 mins (got in a little over 2 miles), i was using the incline which I never use too!

Then it got bad, lol

My friend threw a party...so monday night, from 9 - 2am, i had the following (all spread out)

1.5 cheeseburgers (that we grilled ourselves...they were pretty small), an extra slice of american cheese
chips & cheese sauce
minibag of popcorn
2-3 beers (bud light, i think..)
mixed drink w/kahlua and milk
fresca
3 freezie pops

and througout the day, i probably had about 4 17oz water bottles.

Tuesday, June 6th

breakfast (8am): bowl of Kashi

lunch (12:30): Oven roasted chicken breast sub on italian herbs & cheese bread from subway (had provolone, pickles, lettuce, onion, banana and green peppers, italian dressing, mustard and salt & pepper all added to it)
it was a ft long, but i probaly only ate 2/3 of it (if not less)
also had a diet coke.

diner: pasta (the omega - 3 kind) w/2 chicken tenderloins and pesto sauce. Had a bowl of veggies (califlower, broccoli and carrots) on the side with a glass of ice tea (no sugar, but has aspartame)

i was STARVING for some reason afterwards, so i had a small smoothie (i ran out of frozen berries...i added some grapes and cherries to the little i had left, lol), string cheese, freezie pop

oh, and throughout the day, i had like 4 mini reece's cups (once those are gone...i have like 3 left, im not gonna be buying more..i got those on valentine's day!)

To keep yourself free from future miniature candies: I know you just had them leftover (the reese's), but you might try checking the nutrition facts on the minis when you're at the grocery store. They're higher in calories than I realized for a long time (that fruity fat free candy, too)!
