Most people say to avoid nuts when trying to lose weight because of the fat content, but I have now heard and read that actually nuts can AID weight-loss as long as they are unsalted and eaten in small quantities.

So which is it? Can anybody help me out here?

nuts - especially almonds are a good fat and also contain protein and fiber so they do a good job filling you up - they are high in calories so portion control is a good thing :D

1 ounce is anywhere from 15 - 22 almonds -depending on the size..

So despite the fat content they are probably a good addition to the diet, just high in calories?

You dont lose fat by not eating fat. Nuts contain good fats, poly and monounsaturated. It is recommended that between 20-30% of your total caloric intake should be fat.

Just remember that one gram of fat has 9 calories, where carb and protein contain 4. Walnuts, almonds, and pecans are a great addition to any diet.

yea i think you can eat more of those raw nuts and keep away from the salted or roasted ones.. though nuts are a higher-fat food, it is mostly heart-healthy unsaturated fat and may help lower low-density lipoproteins (LDL or "bad" cholesterol)... i've read somewhere that as long as you control total calories, eating a handful of nuts daily may help prevent weight gain and possibly promote weight loss.. the fat, protein and fiber in nuts help you feel full longer, so you may eat less during the day... hope this helps! =)

Nuts are a good source of protein and while the fat is high it's still good for you. I lost 100 lbs eating nuts as a quick pick me up.
