Sport Nutrition/Excercise for Fat burning

Sport Fitness
Hi everyone, I have been on the goal of getting a tighter and more defined stomach and I wanted to see if anyone had a nutrition plan that I could follow without me losing to much weight, but burning fat? I am 6'2 and 187 and currently doing P90X ab ripper about 2 times a week, I wasnt sure if this would get my abs more visible than running. I'm skinny and not fat at all but I want to trim a little bit of the fat on my midsection so my abs are much more defined (right now, top 2 abs are only abs defined when i flex my stomach). What should I be eating to achieve this but not lose a lot of weight.. I only want to trim the fat on my stomach. If anyone has some nutrition or maybe some light excercise tips to do this it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Spot reduction for fat loss is impossible. Either you lose fat everywhere on your body or not at all. Only targeting your abs during exercise really won't do a whole lot.

For exercising, cardio helps to burn calories, but resistance training is also important. The more working muscle mass you have, the higher your calorie expenditure will be even when you're not exercising. Also, the more muscles you work during exercise, the more calories you'll burn, and so it's best to have a balanced training program that targets your entire body. (See the 'exercises' sub-forum for a huge list of different things you can do.)

As for nutrition, you simply need to eat healthily and balance your nutrients. You'll want to be eating carbs after your workouts, for sure. Also, eating fat doesn't MAKE you gain fat, especially if it's unsaturated. (Mostly plant-based fats such as oils.) Your body needs fat to metabolically function properly, so don't think you can cut that out completely. You may also be surprised to know that people who are trying to lose weight have, generally, the same protein requirements as athletes trying to gain muscle. If you want to lose weight while maintaining as much muscle mass as possible, you should be intaking 2g of protein per kilogram of your body weight per day.

Finally, don't forget all your vitamins and minerals. Those are still important to your everyday function.

Hey amacc02
Are you following the P90X nutrition program? If not, that's the first step. I am a firm believer in P90X, BeachBody and their ability to get someone totally ripped. I used both of these program while I was already in pretty good shape and they brought my fitness to the next level.
The way to better Abs is not really through Ab exercises, but via a good strength and cardio program aimed at zapping your body fat %.

These programs are based on the latest in fitness and nutrition science and are the real deal, but you really have to commit. All in all, they will blow your running program out of the water if you make sure you turn up the intensity during the workouts.

thanks
