Sport nutrition certification

Sport Fitness
Hi, does anyone know of a good nutrition certification?

I was thinking about getting the ACSM or NASM personal training certification and then backing that up with a nutrition certification. I did some research but I haven't been able to find out about a good nutrition certification.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, in most states there is no such thing as nutrition certification. Basically that means that any Joe Shmo can call themselves a "nutritionist." The only recognizable "nutrition" certification is a registered dietitian (RD). In order to become an RD, you have to have a 4 year degree in dietetics plus go through a 9 month (full time 40 hour a week) internship (where you don't get paid and you actually have to pay them $1500-$4000). At the end of that you have to pass a state board exam (which may or may not be transferable between states). I went through the 4 year degree program myself but when I realized what you have to do to become registered, I said no thank you. In my opinion, it's not worth it. I would find a good dietitian where you live and team up with them. I'm sure they would appreciate the extra money (since they don't really make that much once they do become registered).

spud pretty much nailed it. a registered dietician is the only nationally recognized 'nutritionist' degree/certification.
