Numbness after running

Recently I've been running more than I used to because I am training for a marathon. I have started to have a problem with my toes going numb when I run more than 2 miles or so. I thought my shoes might be tied to tight, but I tested it and that's not the problem. Anyone ever had this problem? Is it serious enough to go see a doctor?

Im not sure if its associated with shin splints, I dont think it will be tho cos obviously ur shins would also hurt. Maybe you just need a few days off for your toe muscles/tissue to recover.

"Numbness while running develops from pounding the pavement, cramming the forefoot into a narrow shoe"....that was a quote off of a running site...

I am experiencing the same issue while running on the "soft" setting of my treadmill. I bought a new pair of shoes that are a 1/2 size bigger and much wider to try to alleviate the problem. So far, no luck.

Advil has been doing the trick for me, but I do not like the long term effects associated with taking Ibuprofen on a regular basis.

Can you post the pointer to the running site mentioned above?

Thanks,

TexasRunner
