Sport Not taking breakfast before going to the gym?

Sport Fitness
(I'm sorry if this sort of thread has been done)

As my goal at the moment is to reduce body fat/to drop some pounds and I've read that if you dont take breakfast in the morning before going to the gym will lead to burn fat and not the breakfast itself..I wonder what's the veracity of the sentence above.. Basically, Im confused, because I also saw a thread before where it was said that the breakfast would keep your metabolism high all day or something similar to that.

Note: I go to the gym around 11 am.. so I wake up around 10:15..then I get home at lunch time and I simply lunch..or it also might happen that I gotta go earlier at like 9, so if I get home at 10:30 Ill still have a snack before lunch time. When I go to school at like 8:15 and Im only able to go to the gym at 10 I obviously take breakfast or Ill be naturally hungry at school which in my point of view isnt very healthy.

Thanks :)

What do you plan on doing at the gym?

There's a camp saying that you should do cardio on an empty stomach (Im not saying they're right or wrong, I just don't want to turn this into another debate) because it burns fat, so thats can be beneficial.

If you weight train, its not such a good idea. You need the food energy to help complete your workout. With a good breakfast , you can work out harder. Try to wait at least an hour (2 if you can) after eating to weight train.

oh lol I start with cardio for like 30 min and then I do weight lifting exercises and then finish up with treadmil so yeah lol we got a draw

first of all it is important to have breakfast period.

"Those who skip their morning meal run the risk of getting fatter and ending up in worse health than those who eat breakfast." Anna Keski-Rahkonea. Helsinki University 2003.

Secondly it is important to realize that you need calories when you train. With out the proper calories your body will break down overall as oposed to tone up.

"Weight training without proper nutrition causes a catabolic situation." Tipton, K., et al. (2001). Exercise, protein metabolism and muscle growth. Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab. 11(1):109-132.

Look at the bigger picture. Look at what you eat for the whole day as opposed to what you have before the gym. You will lose weight if you have frequent small meals throughout the day.

"The body responds to long gaps between meals by storing up energy. But a routine of six or more meals a day encourages steady metabolism." Kay-Tee Khaw, Institute of Public Health in Cambridge in Nov 2001 British Medical Journal.

Like I said earlier, It depends on what your doing.

If you're just doing cardio, having breakfast before you eat is supposedly beneficial for forcing your body to burn fat. If your weight training , you need complex carbs for energy and like R.B.B. stated, to prevent catabolism. Protein is good post workout too.

But it is very important to eat breakfast. That one meal raises your metabolism all day long.

There's a great quote in my exercise physiology textbook-"Fats burn in a carbohydrates flame."

Any reason why you can't mix some protein in with milk when you first wake up?

thanks for the advises.. I guess I'll start eating breakfast before morning exercise..it really doesnt make me any difference but its not that simple as I can see :)
