No motivation

Hi

I've been trying to lose weight for the past...20 years. I'm 27 now. I have bad relationship with food. I keep overeating. I tend to eat when I'm suffering from stress, depression, anger and anxiety. I'm worried that I will never lose weight and I'm starting to lose motivation.

Can anyone help me?

Hey WMD, welcome to the forum! I think you have found a place that can help.

I suggest you start by looking around and then starting a diary. Posting your food and progress every day will help you with accountability and allow others to offer support and advice.

Best of luck to you!

Hi, WMD & welcome to the forum. You have found a very supportive space here. As Rob suggested why not start a diary? You'll find the link at https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ Are you able to get help with some counselling? I found it helped me to re-build my self-esteem. It's hard to lose weight & get healthy if you are feeling negative about yourself. We will try to help you. I'll be a part of your cheer squad. I suggest calling your diary something that we can then call you. Make up a name you like. Cheers, Cate.

Echoing the two above me, and sending good wishes to you for a restart to your relationship with food, and for feeling better about things.

Thank you everyone.

Yes I will start off with a diary. Hopefully it will help me behave and regulate my eating habits.

@ Cate, I had counselling, but they tend to dismiss me because they think I'm mentally healthy and doing well.

Hi there,

Welcome. Motivation is difficult. I have always found I can’t manufacture motivation. It’s either there or it’s not. The trick is when you start on something to push through the hard bit that will inevitably come because once you make something habit you don’t need to worry so much about motivation.

Hello, You say you have been on a "diet" for the last 20 years, but your only 27, so im assuming you have associated disorders to food - food has been a comfort due to something that happened around that time period?
I would recommend "possibly" speaking to a therapist or similar, to find the reason, and develop better coping skills, because until you find the reason WHY you wont find the motivation to change, because this issue will just drag you back.
Diets dont work -healthy eating and nutrition ongoing, works.
Hope you find the reasons for your comfort eating, many thanks
