I know what I'm supposed to do to lose weight but can't get the motivation to do it. I sit on the couch and watch TV and no I need to get up and move but my body doesn't do it.

I think that lots of us know that feeling only too well.

Don't expect yourself to do everything all at once. None of us are perfect - so don't expect perfection from yourself.
See if you can challenge yourself to do one thing better - and if you can you are making a step in the right direction and deserve to feel proud of yourself for doing so.

See if you can go out for a walk (maybe wear a pedometer all day long and try to get to a magic number of steps).
Maybe you could try to drink a certain amount of plain water each day, or 5 portions of fruit or veg, cut out alcohol or chocolate...

Just one thing to work on initially and see how it goes - then maybe add another good habit to the list - or improve the one you are working on...
You can either improve by walking more steps or maybe drinking more water or having more veg...
You can focus on more areas by maybe making sure you have healthy fat when you have fat and switching some things to low fat.

Be sure to feel good about every thing achieved. Don't beat yourself up on days when you do not hit your target - just try and some days you will hit it.

Feelings of success often breed motivation.

Feel good about every ounce of weight lost too. Don't focus on how much you don't like your current weight - more about how wonderful it is to know that you are back in control and doing it in a healthy way.

I know that Cate has built a lovely thread on motivational sayings and thoughts that may be worth reading too.

I have just started some threads on the basics in the "challenges" section - because I am actually in a similar boat - having been away for the forum for quite a long time and gained weight... Join me in those threads and we can compare notes on how we are managing with those basics. I have a lot of successful weight loss experience and am going through just these steps with you.

Set up a diary too - so that you can make friends with other people on the forum. Visit their diaries and see what they are doing... Maybe support them and they may visit your diary to support you too.

WOW. Thank you sooo much. That was very helpful. I need someone to push me and this certainly helped. I look forward to posting again with you.

I know how you feel. I always find music lying in bed telling myself to get up and exercise. I hope you get by it

Some advice I can give you. I listen to these motivational speeches from my heroes like Arnold Swartzenegger, or Will Smith and it helps me out. Try listening to someone you admire, I'm sure you'll find something on YouTube.

What a great idea. Thanks for the advice.

Have you set yourself some short term goals and put them down on paper or in your phone to make yourself accountable. Rather than just focussing on the end result as you are likely to feel demotivated when you think of it because it may see far off.

Maybe you can relate to this. You know, I spent so much time anticipating what people need and trying to make everybody happy. In the long run, end up making nobody happy not even myself. What I've discovered is, is that if I'm authentic and I listen to my inner soul and I conduct my actions accordingly, not only am I happy but I seem to attract more quality and authentic people. So the lesson in this is that if you stay on your path, the people who have paths that are equally yoked with yours. We will align together and we will get a lot more accomplished and be happy in the process. So today be true to yourself

It's your life! Get to livin!

Hi Meema I am the same and I have just started a One Day Challenge. I find i get all fired up to loose weight, go to the supermarket to prepare for the coming week, plan meals etc.. then i just get overwhelmed and give up. So i though what if i just commit to 1 day of healthy eating at a time don't even think about anything further than 1 day at a time. So I started the [Deleted] page to pledge it publicly. i am only on day four but t is working so far why don't you join me ? You can commit to one day of anything. My sister in-law committed to just 10 minutes a day walking which eventually lead to her running a marathon. So don't focus on the future just commit today to walk for 10 minutes ....Cheers Imogen
