No More THUNDERTHIGHS!!!!

So I'm starting my blog/diary on my weightloss progress to keep a record for myself and for helpful tips. Oh, and to get all the great encouraging comments from you people! To start out with, I am 5'9" 185ish...when I was active in softball and other things, I was about 140ish. At that wieght I always felt big with my wider frame compared to the size 00-02 girls I played ball with. Now I know that I was just being insecure and was, as my boyfriend puts it, 'a little too skinny." I have now made a commitment to being healthy and fit again, only this time I'm not really going for a particular number. I am looking to tone up the arms a little, and get rid of the hips, and obviously the thunder thighs! When I reach my goal, I am guessing I will be around 150 or so with muscle instead of flab!

So I have a trainer (kinda) at this gym I belong to, so I figured I pay for it, why not use it? My plan is to get up at 6 every morning and go to the gym before class, which is at 9:30 or later. She has a workout set up for me consisting up cardio every day and weights 3-4 times a day. Tomorrow being labor day, the gym is closed so I will have to go jog and do lunges and stuff on my own here. Hopefully it's not raining....I wouldn't mind jogging/running in the rain except here in Louisiana, when it rains, there's massive puddles and the roads are sometimes uneven, so I would hate to trip on an unforseen pothole. But I will do my best.
As far as nutrition, I'm terrible, so I'm taking it a few steps at a time. First one: no more sodas!!! In fact, I need to only be drinking water all day, with some juices in the morning and some milk at night. As far as foods, I really don't eat too much crap, but I need to slowly work into eating more often....I usually get all my calories in 2 or 3 meals. That's the next step after conquering the sodas and managing a way to eat throughout the day with class. But I will figure it out, one step at a time.

Welcome!!!! Glad you have joined us. I think it's fantastic that you are working with someone at the gym. Sounds like you have a decent plan there. Make sure you have rest days, ok?

Nutrition is the hard part. It's 80% of the ratio for weight loss. Proper nutrition is crucial for you to reach your goals. But taking it one step at a time is a good thing! You will adjust to changes that you make in what you eat and you'll feel good about it.

You mentioned your trainer has a plan that includes cardio everyday and weights 3-4 times a day. I am assuming you meant weights 3-4 times a week :) My personal opinion is that cardio everyday is a bit much. I feel you need at least one day of rest a week ( no training ). And I agree with Sarah normally diet is the more difficult part of this lifestyle (training, diet and recovery/rest) As Sarah mentioned, take baby steps at first and hopefully it will become the norm. Good luck with your goals. :)

HAHA yeah I did mean 3-4 times a week, alternating upper and lower body...and there's usually a day or two of rest when I can't make it there because of school or something. As far as nutrition, I'm actually not doing too bad....I thought it was going to be harder, but the more active I am the more I actually don't want sodas and all the other stuff my sedentary self wanted. It must be the body's way of telling you "eeewwww...that's goign straight to your thighs, and that's no good!!!"
So much for waking up at 6 to get to the gym...this morning I overslept and was almost wait for class! But I did get to the gym afterward, and I spent a little over an hour in the gym. I am tired and I'm sure I'll be a little sore tomorrow. But I feel like I have more energy already, though I'm sure some of that is psychological lol.
Tomorrow I am going to get up and make it to the gym at 6 because I'm going to bed early and I'm sure I will sleep like a rock! My trainer said doing one of the full body workout class once a week or so instead of plain ole' weights and stuff will probably make my workouts more enjoyable and varied, so I'm going to try a body pump class tomorrow. It sounds like it's going to kick my butt, so wish me luck!

Oh and thanks for the encouragement and advice!! :)

Body pump is rough! I'm glad I did it on a day I had later classes, because I needed the nap I took afterward. So I am a little sore, but not as bad as I expected...I have lunges to do tomorrow though and those always get me. Well I'm off to study...yay!

So it's been a couple of days since I got on here, but I have been going to the gym and eating pretty well. I really like the varied workout I'm getting, and there isn't a day I don't go hope with at least something sore. Every other Monday I'm supposed to get weighed and measure body fat and all that fun stuff, so that's not this Monday but next. The first time I was 190 and I can't remember the body fat and muscle weight, but my trainer has it written down so I will get it when I remember to ask her.

I got quite the workout today, and man am I exhausted...tomorrow is a day of rest from the gym, and other things, and you can bet I am going to be sitting on my butt! Overall I think I am doing pretty good. I am making it to the gym every day I can, around school, which is turning out to be pretty often. And writing on here about it, seeing my posts of victory is really encouraging, even if it is all in my head! Well, I'm pooped, so I'm off to bed....because no one is in the chat room to keep me up tonight! haha :p

Muscles aren't built in the gym - they're built when you rest... So enjoy your rest days when you have them. Keep up the good work.

Stupid technology....

So I wound up getting TWO days of rest in a row because I had way too much school stuff going on today that I didn't make it to the gym. My stupid laptop has decided it doesn't want to boot up windows correctly unless it's on its powercord, which makes me wonder why have a laptop if I have to have an outlet? It better fix itself, but I know it won't. It's just too powerful of a processor for the crappy battery. But I'm not paying 200 bucks or so to get a better battery. And that's all I really have to say about that...
But I did manage to get A LOT done, so I feel good about school, and that's always nice. Now I plan on sitting online and watching TV!

Back to the gym today after my rest days....I missed my gym, but I definately felt re-energized for the workout. And yeah I hate computers, though I should be careful how loud I say that for mine seems to have fized itself...for now.

So that school crap got a hold of me again, so wed I had no gym time :( Thursday I made it there, but I only had like 45 min. Friday got there early and had a good workout. Sat and today I haven't been feeling too great so I just did school work. I think I'm getting better, though, so I'm going tomorrow even if it is just a light workout. I had mcdonalds friday (i know, i know....), but other than that I have eaten well. That's all I have to talk about really....supposed to weigh tomorrow, so we'll see if I've made any progress there, though I feel better, like I am getting in better shape, so I'm not too concerned with the pounds, more with the body fat....

Monday, got to the gym and got weighed/analyzed. Tuesday I was sick, even missing class, which means playing catch up when I normally barely keep up....so no gym that day, and no gym Wednesday. Thankfully I had a class cancelled Wed. so I got all my work done. So I made it to the gym yesterday and today. The rest of this weekend I have to study for a huge test, so I'm going to try to get to the gym, but I don't see it happening. That sucks, though, because I like going to the gym. You know, the whole excersice reduces stress thing. :D Well, I'm going to finish my break from studying with some baked chicken and mashed potatoes. mmmmmmm.

MMMMMM....mashed potatoes (in the voice of homer simpson)...:D
