Sport No drinking/eating during training not even water? bull?

Sport Fitness
yeah.. i heard this guy said not to eat or drink during training, and he said even water.. so i was like "i can almost guarantee thats bull" cuz i thought it sounded very weird.. so yeah.. wtf?:p

Who said that and what were his reasons?

I'm gonna have to go with the "bull" part here. Water is essential. That's what I drink most of the time, and the only thing I drink during any workout.

I agree with you.

I am still curious as to why this gentleman thinks this though.

Yeah I'm a bit curious too, but I'm thinking it's just some guy who doesn't know what he's talking about..but in the rare chance that he has a legitimate point I wanna hear it

drink too much at once, and you might get a gut ache. that's about the ONLY logic I can see behind a statement like that...and frankly, just don't drink it so fast.

i sip 12-16oz during a typical workout. i also drink a lot during the day, and post workout. i don't force it...i take what my body wants.

not eating during training is simple logic

you shouldnt eat during the workout. Always keep atleast 1 hour gap between heavy meals. on the other hand its not a good idea to exercise on an empty stomach. so having one or two bannanas half an hour to 15 min prior to workout provides much needed energy during the workout.

during the workout the blood flow is primarily to the muscles so digestion and absorbtion wont be effective. that what i think he meant to say

not drinking water is plain crap
I've heard not drinking enough water can cause muscles to cramp

yeah, it was not on here.. its a guy at school, doesnt go to a gym, he does judo though. I was like "WTF?" when he said it.. i can understand the food thing, but water.. :S he dident give me any reason.

eating or drinking ANYTHING during a workout will hinder IGF production (lowers GH levels). i would still go for water to stay hydrated.. If I dont drink water I get really heavy headaches.
So although you might be slightly diminishing your IGF-1 I personally find that the positives of staying hydrated during a workout are very important to me.
Drinking Gatorade or any other glorified sports drinks like that are pretty useless.. That is unless you are eating a hypocaloric diet and dont have a steady level of glucose and aminos in their blood.
So.. if you are bulking and you are low on aminos and glucos.. you have to change your diet, not drink gatorade. :D

so to conclude.. a little water should be A okay.
