No coffee for me booo

After filling my belly with coffee and experiencing hurtburn, I was told by someone knowledgeable that I should cut down coffee. Anyone know a natural remedy for acid reflux bar abandoning coffee and gaviscon? I would rather go and live on Mars than abandon coffee but lets see what suggestions anyone has? :bncry:

I used to get heartburn all the time. Eating better has really taken that away. I could never eat green peppers, and spicy foods but now the spicier the better. I attribute it to a diet rich in fruits and veggies. I took more Tums than a pregnant woman.

Not sure how the rest of your diet is but maybe you should review that and see if you can make some improvements to it. Do you eat breakfast? Cpffee on an empty stomach will tear you up.

Or you could simply switch to tea.

You are right. I was having lots of decaff on an empty stomach and some greasy food. Its time to switch to tea and more fruits/veg.

I'd just put up with pain and take lots of antacids. I know that sounds like bad advice but I couldn't give up coffee.

Yeah, I have a big ass shake of oats, whey, flax seed, and whole milk and I have a couple cups of coffee afterwards with no problems.

Have you tried that 'low acid' Foldgers coffee?

A different brewing method may help too.

I'm a coffee snob...I roast my own beans at home, weekly. I only drink french press/siphon pot coffee.

I will never give it up! NEVAR!

I'm a coffee snob, too. I don't roast my own, but I grind my own coffee and everybody that drinks it says they've never tasted anything better. In fact, they all wonder what I do to make it taste so smooth and rich ;)

I say I make my coffee with LUV :D

Black tea upsets my stomach something fierce (must be the tannins). But not coffee.

Vaecicla, the advice you've been given is pretty good ;) Malkore's advice to try a different method of brewing is actually quite brilliant!!! Drip coffee is a lot stronger/harsher than other methods of brewing.

And if you don't drink coffee on an empty stomach or eat really greasy food, I think that will help you. It would be really tough to give up coffee ... it is one of life's finer pleasures ;)

I'm a fan of taking things like coffee in moderation. Ideally one should drink lots of water with the occasional tea or coffee rather than make coffee the main drink. Green tea is also healthy and contains antioxidants and fights the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Coffee whiteners may contain unhealthy saturated fats. Espresso's are popular but a girl overdosed on 7 espresso's a while back.

I had too much caffeine once and it was not pretty. It wasn't as bad as the article describes, but I was messed up for a couple of days.

I used to drink coffee now and again, but I had to stop because I developed an allergy to it. Even decaf makes my heart race and my head spin while other caffeinated drinks don't really do anything to me. It's an allergy to the burned sugars in the coffee itself.

To the OP

The only advice I can give is maybe switch to a low acidity variety. You could also consider getting your stomach checked out if you're having chronic heartburn. It could be a sign that something else is wrong, not just what you're eating.

To answer your original questions: 2 TBSP of Apple Cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water 3 times daily, shots of aloe vera juice, eating non-greasy foods and not drinking coffee on an empty stomach.

GERD is not something to screw around with if you have it frequently or its constant. You can end up with esophageal cancer and well...you only have 1 esophagus...and i can't imagine life ebing that enjoyable w/o one.

and just to clarify i have been battling this for a little over 2 years now. i was on prilosec daily from october 06 to this past september and the change in eating habits and no more greasy foods has helped me greatly. some things still cause my stomach to flair...pizza is one of them...expecially with cheap cheese.

I love a cup of joe in the afternoon when i'm retreating from reality with a good book. I never feel dependant on it if I don't have it for a day or two. I have a cup everyday too, so i reckon it is the time I drink it. Has anyone ever had Larry's Beans? It's an organic coffee roasted in small batches. It's freaking amazing.

I never drank coffee or even tried it until I got into college.

It was my first week in school and I had a lot to read for an astronomy course. I made myself my first cup of coffee.....held it up over the sink and toasted "here's to my first cup of coffee and getting through school"....imagining I was about to discover my new best friend.

As I rasied the mug to my mouth I thought to myself.....this is the elixir of the business world, what makes the executive table turn round. For so many people to be addicted, it must be DELICIOUS and oh-so wonderful.

I took my first taste and it wasn't sweet like hot chocolate or Coke, it tasted horrible, disgusting and foul. I poured it down the drain and re-toasted "here's to dropping-out of school" ;)

I didn't drop-out, but I never again have tried coffee. EVERYONE told me I was better-off without coffee in my life and not to start. Sheesh, you'd think I'd said cocaine by the way they comdemned it....but yeah, they all said not to start.

Dude...you need to eat food, you need to drink water, you need to get sleep and you need to pay taxes & eventually die....but you don't NEED coffee. Get off the black horse and with the money you save you can finally afford that elliptical machine that you'll need to deal with the slower metabolism, increased appeitite and weight-gain associated with dropping that addiction. :)
