Is it ok to eat in the evening? On one hand, it seems that if I've added it into my daily calaries, and it fits, it should technically be ok. But then I hear the "never eat after 6 o'clock" comments and wonder, well maybe it just sits there.

The real reason I'm asking...lol I love to have a bowl of shredded wheat w/ rice milk at night and I'm not sure if it's a bad thing or not. Whacha think?

The way I understand it, the "no eating after X:00" rule was originally intended to limit calories to those who can't control their eating and eat more than maintenance every day. If your diet plan includes eating a 200 calorie snack at 10:00 PM to reach your calorie goal, I believe that is perfectly fine.

I believe the myth became that eating before bed means those calories just sit in your stomach and turn into fat overnight because your body doesn't need the calories while its sleeping, but thats just not true. I think there was a good explanation of this in the importance of meal frequency sticky or one of the others.

:hurray:YAY, I get to have my shredded wheat. However, by the look of the spelling on my title, I should definitely never post before coffee...oye!:blush5:

Thanks!

It really depends on your goals too in my opinion. If you are working hard in the gym with strength training then eating that many carbs and fat before bed with slow down the process of your muscle building. I would suggest eating a protein and/or veggie snack. However the myth of eating before bed is a proven myth. It's the types of foods that you eat play a big role.

Yeah. A lot of people put a time limit on eating simply to be a barrier to overeating at night.

There's no reason you can't eat whenever you want to eat as long as you stay within your calorie level.

Other than that, it's all personal as well - for me, if I eat too close to bedtime, I get heartburn, so I have to stop eating at least an hour before I go to bed. And if I eat anything too heavy or sweet it will keep me awake. But that's more about me personally than about any arbitrary rule. :)

Do what works best for you.

If you are hungry, then it shouldn't be a problem.
