I’m currently 17 and I’m roughly 280 pounds. I have tried to lose weight before but have never been successful, one reason I’ve always failed is because I’ve never had any real motivation. When I was 7 I found out I had liver issues. At the age of 10 we found out it was fibrosis of the liver. My weight is starting to affect the way that I live. I’m always tired, hungry and because of my weight I’m insanely insecure and have really bad anxiety. I woke up this morning and realized I don’t want to be this size anymore so I started looking into weight loss and discovered this forum I wanted to come in and see if anyone could help or give me ideas on how to go through with my weight loss and actually stick with it. Tomorrow I go to my liver specialist and I will see how much I weigh.

I’m also 5,11 and won’t know my BMI until tomorrow

Hi, Hector & welcome to the forum. I'm on my phone now, but will come back again tomorrow on my laptop. You have youth on your side & can make changes that will help you to become healthy. If you are able to see a nutritionist I would recommend it. Starting a diary in this forum would be a good way of getting more support. Tell us what sort of food you eat now & you will get some helpful suggestions. Cheers for now, Cate.

Hey Hector, welcome to the forum! If you stick around you will find this a good place for help in losing your weight.

My suggestion to you is to start a diary on the Weight Loss Diary page (https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/) and tell us a little more about yourself and your goals. You will find people there happy to help you figure out a diet and exercise plan that works for you. You'll also get a lot of support.

Best of luck to you!

I’m on my way to my liver specialist and will definitely ask to be referred to a nutritionist thank you!

It went good I’ve been busy last couple of days but they referred me to a nutritionist and I have to go back this Friday for mri’s they are afraid my fibrosis has gotten worse

Fibrosis of the liver huh, that doesn't sound good. I don't know anything about fibrosis, but I do know losing weight makes most things better, and I don't know that it ever hurts.

Are you planning to go on a diet and/or exercise plan? A nutritionist is a good idea, but you can start without one. There are a lot of folks here who can give you good advice and help you find a path. Start a diary on the Weight Loss Diary page (https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/) and you'll get more attention than here on the Newcomer page.

Best of luck to you!

:iagree: with Rob. I didn't know anything at all about liver fibrosis. If you have not been given guidelines to stop it getting worse then you should be. Seeing a nutritionist can only be a good thing as would making sure you are as healthy as you can be. Come on over to the diary section. There's a great supportive crew over there.

Ok thank you guys so much and it does hurt sometimes when I do certain exercises because of my liver but I try my best to go on runs every day to try and stay active the doctors for the past 10 years haven’t really been helpful and I was pretty much in bed for 4 years which is how I gained a majority of my weight.

I think walking or swimming would be easier on your body. I would try to be gentle with yourself & ease your way into being more active. Diet is the most important component in weight-loss, but gentle exercise is also therapeutic & helps make you feel better about yourself & life.

Sorry I have been so inactive I’ve had so many doctors appointments recently it’s hard to keep up with anything I’ve been doing slight exercises such as walking running a bit and some swimming they found a few more things that are wrong with my health they just recently did another liver biopsy and an upper endoscopy they found more fibrosis of the liver, esophagitis, and gastritis. It sucks but I’ve been trying to push through it a few weeks ago I went to the doctor and I weighed 275 and when I went to the doctor a few days ago I weighed 280 unfortunately I gained back 5 pounds due to me being in bed and not doing much but I’m still trying to push through and trying to make things work out

My health issues have started to get worse which is disappointing after being stuck between a bed at home and a hospital bed for about 4 years it feels like I’m backtracking which sucks but I’m trying to push through it and succeed in my weight loss journey

I'm so sorry that your health issues are not improving. Try to concentrate on getting good nutrition, rather than focussing on weight-loss. Use your spare time if you can on getting the most nutrients that you can. Do what you can with what you have. I hope that you will get better with time. Meanwhile, just look after yourself & look forward, xoxo

I appreciate that highly I will definitely try to focus on the nutrition side of things because at the moment I can’t do any kind of heavy lifting or running. I was able to run as much as I wanted to a few weeks ago but I can’t let my health issues stop me from anything tbh.

Hi, Hector - good to have you here with us! I'm really sorry that things have been seeming to go backwards for you for exercise and in health terms generally. Cate is right, I think, not to stress too much about the pounds, but to focus on good nutrition, and following whatever regime is best for getting you well.
(I'm so glad you're getting the medical support and advice you need - the liver specialist and the nutritionist, and I guess others as well.)

Yeah I realized that I shouldn' t be focused on the pounds but more about actually trying to get better and focusing on nutrition. I’m also glad that I’m getting seen for my health issues but there are sooo many appointments that I forget to check up on this page

Thank y’all very much
