newbie

Just surfed right into this web site and like what I see. A little about me, and hopefully this will change, I am 5'8", 165lbs and I have a gut that I really want to change. Now, my gut isn't huge just enough to where if I squeze the front or sides it turns into a roll. I do drink, use to be a lot of beer but I am going to switch to a liqour instead to get rid of all the carbs. How does Vodka and Orange juice fair? I am 21 so I am obviously in the partying stage. Now, onto the things I really dont understand. I am in the Army and we run 4 times a week on average between 2-4 miles a day and we walk 4 miles 1 day with on average a 35lbs pack. Wouldnt you think with all of that my gut issue shouldnt be an issue? Any help and info would be great.

First of all the alcohol part: liquor is even worse health and diet wise than beer. Don't know about vodka+OJ. But do you know that alcohol has more calories than carbs (1kcal/g) AND is very easily being storaged to fat? Not to mention the damage it does to your overall health and fitness if drank too much ( =not alot).

Second of all: check out your diet. The most important part of you diet is to eat lots of veggies, whole grains and other fiber rich foods, enough fluid and balanced amount of different fatty acids. Also, strive to eat about five times a day.

Third: do you go to the gym? 2-3x/week will suffice. Read about multi-joint movements and learn the form.
