Newb Confused...

Hey
I m a very shy guy who is deathly scared of gyms.But I want to build my body in a nice lean way with some muscles at home.
And there is so much info out there,I don't know what to do and what not to do. I understand to develop upper body strength I need to do push ups and for lower body I need to do bench and dips(hopefully thats what its called).For triceps and biceps I need to do pull ups.
I m 5'5",weigh 110 lbs with 15.5% body fat (as by YMCA or whatever that is).
So,I need a simple workout plan. Hopefully with videos.
Any advice on diet or anything else ll greatly appreciated.
 
I think you're a little confused as to which muscle does what. For instance, your biceps allow you to pull (or bend your elbow) while triceps push (straightening your arm). So you can work your biceps with pull-ups and your triceps with pushups.

However, you need to have a variety of different exercises to train your muscles. If you use only one type of exercise for each muscle, then you're only training that muscle to make that one specific motion.

I don't know what type of equipment you have at home, but you should take a look through these threads here. Most of them don't require more than an exercise ball and bands.

Also, it definitely is worth trying out going to the gym, eventually. If anything, go with a friend who has experience. If you're self-conscious about the "big, tough guys" that are there, don't be. In my opinion, if people are going to judge you based on how much you can lift, they're likely the ones with the low self-esteem themselves and are just trying to make themselves feel better.
