2010 is right upon us! Its time we make a plan to stick to our New Years resolution to lose weight!

I wouldn't mind doing something fun with this challenge, but I'm fresh out of ideas. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post it! If not, I'll have the chart posted next week to copy and paste and we'll proceed as normal :)

I'll be in for this, don't have many ideas though. I'll think :)

Ideas...

Wanna do a competition to see who can lost the biggest %age of weight in a set ammount of time? Or a certain ammount of miles, pushups, other exercise that everyone would compete to finish in a certain time frame?

personally, i love BIGGEST LOSER competitions, where if everyone who wants to be involved in the challenge would just post their name, starting weight, and email address... i'd be happy to make up a grid so we can compete to chart our progress to see who loses the highest percentage of body fat??

How about everyone who wants to be in the 12 week new years new you contest has to give their name, email address, and starting weight no later than 12/30 so things can be set for the competition to kick off on new years day??

i'll make up a flyer now and post it in a second... but i think this would be SUPER fun!

p.s.... i'm Bridget, i'll weight myself tonight, and my email is (removed)

I know in the past there have also been weekly "challenges" like a certain amount of water or a certain number of hours of exercise etc. where you get additional points....that might be fun?!

LOL if you guys are going to do the BIGGEST LOSER type of challenge then I'm going to have to subscribe to this thread :)

Yay!

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! :biggrinjester:

Can you tell I am super excited??

For the challenges I think there needs to be some sort of private way we all report our results, so no one is tempted to see that Susie did 98732490 leg lifts this week, and purposefully do 98732491 leg lifts just to sneak by her!

Like maybe there'll be a deadline each week to message whoever wants to be in charge by midnight on a certain day of the week, then that person can tally up the results to announce weekly winners!

We can all self report our weight, and the percentage of weight lost each week... Oh I am SO EXCITED!!!!

Nice!

So if this is going to run for 12 weeks, everyone that's going to be in it needs to post up their starting weight no later than 12/31. The final results for percentages of weight lost will be tallied up on 3/25/10!!

Each week there can be a challenge event competition, and to be eligible to win a challenge you'll have to submit your results by a set deadline each week... I am totally willing to make grids to track challenge wins and weight loss throughout... It would give me a reason why I have to stay current with this site!!

As far as challenge ideas... I like having one week be a leg lift week, where everyone does as many leg lifts as possible, submits their total at the deadline via private message and a winner is announced.

I also like a most miles run/jog/walked week... A most miles biked week... Most pushups done in a week.... I'm kind of stuck on this track of thinking, anyone else have some different ideas??

The winner of the challenge each week could have some little perk for either that weeks weigh in, or for the next weeks challenge??

I am so excited... January 1st cannot come soon enough!

I'd be up for joining a challenge... I need the constant competition to keep me motivated otherwise I fall off the wagon.
I also love Biggest Loser Challenges. Even if it doesnt involve weekly leg lift ect challenges. Just having to send someone my weight by a certain time would be motivation enough for me :). I'll keep checking back to see what everyone decides.

I like the idea of a challenge that gets creative, but wouldn't something that involved how many leg lifts/miles walked/most push-ups leave those of us who are just beginning to be active out in the dust? I'm sure I cannot do as many push-ups as someone who is half my size (I'd have to be able to do one at all, first). I like challenges that are based on percentages because it makes it a more level playing field.

Maybe we could make at least some of the challenges diet-based. Or even meeting some sort of quota. Like, an extra half-hour or hour of cardio in one week, you can split that up however you want over the course of the week or just do it all at once, and everyone who does it gets an advantage at that weeks weigh-in. Or a no "sweets" week. Or a challenge based on water-consumption.

I wouldn't mind some (or even half) of the challenges being exercise based, but if we could find a way that it could be based on determination and not ability, that would be ideal, I think.

This sounds like a great idea! I'm of the same mind as Addiecakes. I suck at push-ups and I know a lot of other people do too. We want to make sure nobody feels left out. What about something to do with heart rate? For example, raising your heart rate above a certain level (e.g. 120 beats per minute) for a certain amount of time per day/week? This would make it equal for everybody involved since everybody's heart rate accelerates with different levels of exercise. Also, a percentage of weight lost would make it fairer, rather than total weight lost per week (i.e. you take the weight lost as a percentage of your overall body weight and use the percentage as the weekly value - since people with more weight to lose tend to lose it faster).

I'm excited about this too. Let's do it!!! :iagree: :cheers2:

Well you guys seem to know what you want to do. I was personally thinking about a simpler challenge as I'm going to be in school again soon. PlumpHope, you seem to have a good idea of how you want things ran....if you'd like to be in charge of this challenge, please feel free to do so.

You'll probably want to start with starting a new thread...i can close this one once I get a responce from you....and then you can have people sign up on the new thread w/ the details of what kind of challenge it'll be :)

We could also do measurements and calculate that as a percentage, couldn't we?

Or maybe if we do something involving sit-ups, push-ups, leg lifts, etc. we could do that as a percentage ... i.e. on starting day (of that week, or even 2 weeks for something like this) do as many as you possibly can without stopping said activity and record that number. Keep doing them everyday to see how many you can increase that number by, and then use the difference as a percentage.

So if I can do 10 push-ups today, and two weeks from now I can do 20, I obviously have an increase of 100%. This is obviously all based on the honor system, though unless we're going to require video submissions ... which would probably be frightening in my case!! lol

Just some thoughts, I'm totally psyched about this challenge though!

YAY! I love the new ideas!! What would you be thinking when you mention a challenge about drinking water??? I would be THRILLED to run the challenge!!!

Well take the reins girl! If you wanna keep this thread going, then thats great, but I won't be responding to it, its your challenge now. BUT if you want to write up a plan for a challenge and have another sign up thread, it would be best to close this one so we dont' have people responding on both threads. Let me know what you want.
