"New Year, New me"......

Don't you hate that saying? I know I do.

The time of year I have chosen to get a hold of my weight loss is purely coincidental, as I am not just a "ooh time to lose 5 lbs so I can look good in my bikini!" kind of person. I have been struggling with my weight for a few years now and I am getting sick of it.

I'm E. At least, this is what I go by. I began my most recent (and final!) weight loss attempt January 15, 2016 at a whopping 198 lbs. I realize I'm still in "One-derland" but that is too dang close for comfort. I am 21 years old, and I am not ready to accept that I have to wear pants over my belly button to hide my fat stomach. That is just.not.sexy.

I have tried (and eventually failed) every time that I attempted to lose weight. I have been "overweight" for about 3 years, and considered "obese" for the past 1.5 years. At 5'5", my BMI isn't very kind to me.
The most success that I have had on any weight loss adventure was on Weight Watchers, where I lost 10 lbs (yup..that't it). I have determined that my main cause of weight gain is that I'm a binge eater. Food occupies my mind at all times, can't wait to get my hands on it. I will eat to the point of where I feel no control, and will finish eating with a painful stomach ache, and a great deal of self loathing.

I saw my doctor to inquire about Phentermine. For those who are not familiar, Phentermine is a doctor prescribed drug that manages appetite. I did copious amounts of research surrounding this drug, its success rates, side effects, etc. I decided it was a good fit for me. I do know that Phentermine is a class IV drug, as well as an amphetamine. My doctor has a strict plan on how to manage my use of the drug so that it won't harm me. (Please no negative comments on my choice...I'm here for positive support!)

In addition to taking the Phentermine, I am eating a very healthy diet (which I can attribute to the medicine) and I am working out a non-negotiable 5 days a week at my local planet fitness. (which I love).

I weigh in on Mondays (mostly so that I can hold myself accountable on the weekends...). Yesterday I weighed in at 183.2 Lbs. That puts me at a 14.8 lbs of weight loss since January 15. I am very proud of myself!

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself into this forum so that I can receive as well as give support to all those who desire to be a healthier person, and maybe look a little hotter in the process!

I love to give and take advice. Let me know if you have any fun weight loss tips! I am always interested in trying new things!

Forget New Year, New Me,
How about New year, New Life!

Hi E,

Congrats on such good results with your new program! That's great news. Here's an extra few weight loss tips since you asked for them:

- Control carbs at night, unless you're working out
- If unsure if a food will help you get slimmer or not, ask yourself how "natural" or processed it is; natural foods tend to help you much more; besides that, you can check their IG: the higher, the faster blood sugar rises and the worst for fat-burning it is; the lower the IG, the better
- Veggies; I tell you from personal experience I eat a TON of veggies and they help me feel full (not to mention the health benefits)
- Besides the scale, also use a measuring tape around your waist; even if your weight stays the same, if this number goes down it means you're putting on muscle and losing fat

All the best,

Fred
