New Weightlifter

Hello I just joined the forum today and want to get a better body. I have contemplated using p90x but my friends tell me that 90 minutes of gym is much more efficient and effective than 90 minutes of p90x. I thought about it and that fact is probably true, but now I'm thinking about joining a gym and getting started. I have probably been to a gym maybe five times in my life, and worked out five times in my life, disregarding doing pushups and situps at home. I was wondering what kind of workout routine I should be doing, and if instead of an ab workout the p90x 15 minute ab ripper would be the best choice.

I did one full year of p90x and it was the best decision of my physical training life. The nice thing too is that a friend of mine had the program so I didn't have to invest the 200 or so bones to buy it. I weightlifted for years and did many different acclaimed programs like Bigger, Faster, Stronger (BFS) and nothing got me into the shape I am now.
