New to working out, a few questions!

Hey there, im extremely new to working out. My roommate is pretty good with himself but i just feel a lot of info im getting just is really self centered around helping himself.

Info about myself
I am 6'3" 155.
I am very very active, Play hockey, basketball, and volleyball competitively.

Now i just recently started working out and getting into supplements. So i was curious if i could get some advice on like workout routines for working out. Good supplements. And the best weight gainer you know of, i've been looking into Serious Mass by OS. I eat a lot as it is, so im pretty sure a weight gainer will be a great help. Thanks ahead of time.

First off I would recommend waiting on supplements for a bit. Right now a protein supplement/weight gainer is fine. I say this because I don't want you to start working out, buy a dozen different supplements, and then lose interest...all your money would go down the tubes! I would say after a few solid months, maybe two months and you're still going strong, then I would recommend creatine.

Creatine is naturally made in your body and it is the first energy unit that your muscles use when performing high intensity/short duration exercises. What creatine supplementation is for is to creatine load, like carbo loading is for distance athletes. By pumping your muscles up with creatine, you will be able to perform 1-3 reps more than you normally can, which will in turn lead to bigger gains. So let me give you an example. You can bench 135lbs 7 times. You seem to can't get any stronger and those last reps seem impossible. You would take a creatine supplement and after a few days you will be able to get 1 more rep. After a few more days you might be able to get another rep. After a while those reps will make your body stronger, and say if you went off creatine, that strength won't go away because creatine is simply energy, not strength. Those extra reps gave you that strength. You can't take creatine and expect to get big just by using it, you definitely have to work out. Creatine is meant to be taken 5 grams for times a day for 6 weeks and then a maintenance period of 3-5 grams a day. Don't be too caught up in all the creatine gimmicks. Your muscles naturally hold about 120 mmol/kg of creatine and the max is 160. One supplement should be sufficient for obtaining that amount, so don't buy all the post workout, during workout junk. Just get one simple supplement.

As for the actual exercises, you want to get bigger so I would stay away from P90x or Insanity. Those are most for cutting fat and toning muscles. What you want to do is (with proper form) high weight and low reps. Simple bench exercises, squats, bicep curls, will all work. I recommend this website for tons of exercises:

Good Luck!
