New to weight loss, need info...

Hi. I’m new to weight loss, I’ve carried a lot of extra weight over the years but never tried to lose it. Well I just turned 50 this year and I decided that I wanted to make a life change by eating better, and losing this extra weight I’ve been carrying.

I just started on my own with no “diets” or plans or help from anyone. I have eliminated 1000 calories a day from my diet, by removing sugary, fatty, carb loaded stuff from my diet, and eating fruits and vegetables.

I have a pretty labor intensive job, and I have been losing an average of 1 to 2lbs. a week.

My question is, how long can I continue to lose weight? I realize at some point my weight loss will slow and stop.

Thank you in advance for your support and guidance!

Hey NV, welcome to the forum!

It would help if you told us more about yourself and your goals, You can probably keep losing weight until you reach your goal weight, if you eat right anyway.

I am relatively new here, but in the time I have been dieting and posting here I have found having a diary and posting daily to be most helpful. You will get a lot of good advice and support from others here. It also helps to look around and see who is doing well and might be able to help you, and then post questions to their diaries. Most folks here are friendly and helpful.

Best of luck to you!

Hi, NV & welcome to the forum. It sounds to me that what you are doing already is working very well. Well done! You could be able to continue losing at a steady rate until you lose your excess. You may have a week here & there where you don't & that is normal, but just persevere & don't give up. How much more do you want to lose?

Thanks for the support! My starting weight 3 weeks ago , and the weight I have maintained over the past few years was 267lbs.
I would like to get to at least 220. If I could reach 200 that would be great, and I think my so called ideal body weight according to the experts would be 185.

I use the calculator below to guide my calorie deficit. Basically, as you lose weight your body will require less calories, because you’re not moving as much weight around through your day. 1-2lbs per week is considered the safe rate for weight loss and by losing at a safe rate, you increase your chances of keeping the weight off after you lose it. Glad to have you on the site!
