read the stickied threads thru out the forum - you'll get a lot of the information you're looking for there.

Get yourself anaccount at to keep track of your daily calories - and accurately weigh and measure everything you put n your mouth.

Create a diary, here, to keep track of your challenges and successes, it's the easiest wy to get support if you need it and it lets us get to know you better.

Start somewhere -with one small change and those small changes will build into bigger changes..

Just started, but I'm just trying to eat healthier and exercise. My husband gets fast food alot so when he would get I would eat that too, thats my major problem. Today I had a bagel with peanut butter for breakfast, don't remember what I had for lunch and for dinner I had a side salad and Chicken fajaita Pita. Also went walking around my apartment complex with my kids.

Tell him not to bring you any :D Walking and moving is a great way to get started. Theres nothing really magical that will melt the fat but better food choices and becoming active :D Good luck

Yeah, definitely avoid the fast food! Walking is great exercise. Do what you can. I would do more myself but I have a 3 year old and he's not keen on being dragged around. I do about a mile, pushing the stroller and walking the dog at the same time. It's not a lot (I should do more) but it's better than nothing. Try to make some meals for yourself ahead of time, so you aren't tempted to eat the wrong things. And stock your kitchen with things that are healthy for you -- a good high-fiber cereal (I like Kashi but there's lots of choices); some fruit, whole-wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta. I try to avoid sugar and refined flour products, and of course, all the empty calories (snack foods, chips, cookies, etc.) Most importantly, to lose that much weight, expect it to take a year or so. If you get impatient with the rate of weight loss, you're less likely to stick with it. Remember it took you a long time to acquire that much extra weight, and it will take a while to get it off. Set small goals for yourself -- maybe 10 lbs to start -- and work to that goal. Then set it 10 lbs lighter. Many people find it too daunting to think of the total amount of weight they want to lose -- it's easier sometimes if you just approach it in smaller increments :)

A lot of people here keep a weight loss journal/diary and update regularly. That's something I'd suggest too. It gives other members an opportunity to check on your progress and cheer you on :)

Good luck!

Just go for it and keep going for it. Motivation can be the toughest part but once you get into a routine and start seeing the needle on the scale moving, it hard not to be excited. Be proud of every pound that disappears. Even though we want instant success, you have to trust in yourself and say I can do this. Go, Go, Go.

Okay, that's my pep talk (I wish you could see the pom-poms!). My biggest piece of advice is to write down everything you eat everyday. This was the only way I could take accountability for what I was doing to my body. Its surprisingly easy to forget some of the things you eat in a day until you really sit down to think about it. I add up all my calories to make sure that what I thought was a wise decision really was. After a while you end up with a running tab in your head about what calories you've consumed and how much more you should consume. It has helped me make very conscious decisions. And seriously, it really hurts to have to write down a "bad food day", so I really try not to let it happen.

I second the advice to write down everything you eat. I try to do it with / after each meal, so I know what my "budget" is for the rest of the day.

Shopping cart fitness!

Morning,

Another thing that will have you exercising and giving your kids a good time as well is to put them in shopping carts and then push those carts up and down the strip malls.

I did that when my kids were little; my shopping cart fitness route ended up to be a little more than a mile in length! So every day I'd drive us to that little strip mall and just plain walk. The shopping cart made it much easier for me in the beginning, thus making it more of a long-term activity.

Best wishes for your success,

Barbara

Do you have any experience with weight training? You probably need to get some help from a certified professional. To start, you need to train 2-3X week with weights and perform cardio, or ESD as I call it, 2-5X week for 15-30 minute sessions. If you cannot afford a trainer or don't want one, I have free video feeds on my site to show you how to perform some exercises. Sorry for plugging my website, but it's a free resource.

The language is loose. You certainly don't need to do cardio. Weight loss is a function of calorie intake/output. I went to your site and I know you don't agree with this, but I found references to the literature lacking in your presentation. So until then we will have to agree to disagree.
