Hi, I hope you are all well. I wanted to put myself out there and looks for support from this community. 7 weeks ago I decided to change my life. I weighed 300 pounds and I am 6ft2. Today I weight 280 pounds after constantly working it and changing my diet. My goal is to get to 220 pounds , but it seems like it's so far and I am losing motivation. Please help me. How do you keep yourself motivated ?

I take a break from diet if it gets too hard. But I get back in & try not to take a break too early.

Thanks. I took a two day break and back on it . I am on 25 pounds now and going strong

Hey, good luck!

It's okay to take breaks. Seems like you're able to bounce back pretty quickly.

What are you doing to lose weight?

When I get motivated, the number motivates me to keep going. It's hard for me to initially get motivated though. I think of my why's and I have to push myself through the negative feelings.

Thanks Brittany. I have a strict 1500 calorie diet split up into 5 meals. I do cardio 5 times a week and weights 2 - 3 times . I try mix up my exercises so I don't get bored . I just got really bored with the stationary bicycle but now using the treadmill .

I also get motivated by numbers. I am just trying to give myself no other options but to get to the 80 pounds. I have myself a year and trying really hard to make it there . It's hard but as my clothes fit better I feel better. Try stay positive and reward yourself with small milestones

HEY that's so awesome that you decided to take charge of your life and weight to start this amazing journey. one quick tip i can give you is to put your goal on a piece of paper and put that piece of paper everywhere in your house to see. for example in your case, put the number 220 on a piece of paper so you can see it all the time. it will keep you motivated for sure. like they say, whatever you focus on the longest becomes the strongest. i did that with my sister, she was able to lose 45 pounds in 60 days by eating clean and using amazing weight loss supplements recommended by a fitness trainer. hope i was able to help you.

congratulations! love to hear people's success stories. keep it up! also, keep posting about your success, it keeps people motivated

I applaud you on your progress! In order to stay motivated in reaching your goal, I think you should find a way to make your journey fun and enjoyable. It sounds like you have turned this into a job more so than an exciting adventure. You need to keep it interesting. If you can't keep yourself motivated try joining a support or challenge group. Maybe by sharing your progress with others to help motivate them in return it might help motivate you. Just a thought.

Thanks everyone ! I really appreciate the ideas . I should check this thread more often!!! Sorry for the late response.

Quick update: I weight 263 pounds now. So I have lost 37 pounds in total. I feel really great about it all and motivated to keep going.

I like the idea of writing it down - thank you healthmaniac

Also thank you keiona84 I have a problem with making it fun for me and you are right I should try do that. A friend of mine suggested that I play basketball with people close to my home. I really like that idea because I couldn't run much before but now I can and playing basketball will make cardio days more fun .

Thanks everyone

That's awesome. Keep up the good work!

One way I try to keep it fun is by using this app called Yaye - basically i'm in a group with my friends and we all have our own goals, but as we make progress we post an activity and everyone cheers each other on. Kinda fun getting little cheers, just make its fun and nice to feel supported. Check it out

I started to just think month to month. You can't rush a good thing!

It will take time....and that is a good thing. I am sure you have read/heard if you lose too much weight too fast it can cause complications. Here is an interesting formula/concept that you can play with inside your head. Let's say you have 100 pounds to lose and you want to lose it in 1 year (365) days.....that means at that rate you would only have to lose 4.2 ounces every day for 365 days (ish)......50 pounds to lose.......2.1 ounces per day........25 pounds to lose.....a little more than 1 ounce per day. So don't tell yourself that you have 100 (or 50 or 25) pounds to lose....ask yourself if you can lose 4.1 ounces tomorrow. Now be mindful that is still about 850 calories....but you get the idea. So at 300 pounds you are probably consuming close to 3,300 calories per day so initially it is probably doable to reduce those 850 calories. So wake up every day with a goal for that day and see if you can accomplish.......losing 100 pounds sounds a lot harder than trying to lose 4.2 ounces tomorrow. Good luck.....I know you can do it.......Kris :)

Maybe the fact that it's probably going to be your lifestyle in the future helps a bit...
It's not just something you're doing temporary. It's a different lifestyle choice.

My fit F frends are (after they do their workouts) around 1500-1800 calories all the time to maintain their weight. They got used to it, it's normal for them, and they don't feel like they are missing anything.

I think it is more important for you to accept that this lifestyle is never going to change. It's your mind that have to be changed.
I know it's hard, but it's the only way to think properly and maintain your new weight forever.

After that mind switch, losing more pounds should really become easier for you.

Hope that helps :)

Btw, congrats on your progress!
