Hey everyone,
I recently came across this group and it seemed like a good forum to join. There are some knowledgeable people here, and also some people who are looking to learn and willing to ask great questions....can't beat that combo!
I am Steve and I have pretty much dedicated my life to fitness and nutrition. I am a personal trainer with a very strong passion for education, exercise, and helping others.
It is a pretty crazy industry, the fitness field, simply because of its diversity and depth. Sadly, it is driven by money....just like any other industry I guess. But the bad thing is, in this industry you are dealing with others lives. You are directly effecting their health.
Pretty much any average joe can become a trainer nowadays, which is not good. There around countless "new and improved" exercise machines being introduced to the market place. There are even more diet pills and plans being introduced. And most of the individuals or companies responsible for introducing these products are not fitness gurus like they make themselves out to be; rather they are marketing gurus, who know how to tap into our minds and trigger emotions that make us feel a need for their products.
Far too many people are being ripped off. And even more people are being mis-educated. Life is a short but sweet experience. There is no time to be led in the wrong direction, and it is too sweet to risk your health.
I have found that some of the best experts, meaning not only knowledgeable, but also out there for your best interests, are found on the web in places such as this. I run my own free yahoo group which covers many of the same topics you see here.
I truly hope I can give and receive a lot from this group and look forward to meeting many of you.
