new to forums, Day 9 of diet

240 goal 180

New member
Hi there. As my username suggests, my start weight was 240 pounds. My goal is 180 pounds. I didn't do much research, but decided I wanted to lose weight.

I've tried some diets but as most people do, always regained the weight. I've kept a balanced diet for about 6 months that has at least kept me from going over 240. I started going back to school and hated that I was fat.

Currently I am on a 200 calorie a day diet. I take vitamin D, a fish oil capsule, eat vegetables, and drink an energy drink daily. I gave in to hunger on day 5, consuming around 1500 calories, but have since resumed 200 calories each day. I don't have any food in my home, which is one thing that helps a ton. I do drink coffee, but use no sugar or creamer. To stop from regaining the weight I'm fighting to lose I am going to keep to a reasonable calorie diet. That doesn't mean I won't be eating desserts, but I will be counting the calories from them towards my daily limit. If I hit 200 pounds, I'll just restart the 200 calorie diet.

I just want to see what other people are doing to stick to their diet and get some feedback on if my diet is okay or if there's things I could be doing differently.

200 calories a day is way too severe, my 1200kcal per day is really too severe, but I feel that I am eating very well. Apart from making yourself ill, you will find that it is difficult to maintain and will break ranks as you have already done. It would be much better for you and easier to sustain if you picked a much higher number, say 1500kcal per day. People will advise you to go even higher than this, and you should listen to them.

Best advice that I have read many times on this site, is to lose the weight at a slower rate. This will help you to sustain your weight once you are done with the weight loss part of your program. 60Lb is at least a years worth of reduction effort. Add on to that another year of close monitoring to maintain your target.

Look up your BMR-Harris number to find out roughly what your break even calorie intake is, or post your height and age and someone will do it for you.

Accept that it is a long haul and pace yourself.
