New to fitness.com

Well, I am new to fitness.com and was just looking to discuss my goals and strategies with all of you, as I realize that is the reason most of you are here.

Anywho...

My fitness profile:

Height: 5'11
Weight: 135
Bench: 170
Squat: 250
Sports: Track, Baseball, and boxing
Calorie intake: 1800-2000 per day
Activity level: lifting or cardio 30-60 mins a day

Not too impressive, but I consider myself to be healthy, and most importantly, I feel good and have a fairly high energy level.

Being in baseball, Track, and boxing for many years has kept me slightly slender and I've been wanting to bulk up and expand into power lifting. However, I feel that I don't have the necessary experience to do this and hopefully with the help of some of you here, I can accomplish my goal.

:D

Welcome to the site.

To gain weight you need to eat in excess of what you burn. Sounds like you have a very high activity level, which means you will need many more than the 2000 calories you've been getting. Break down your meals into 6-8 per day and shoot for somewhere in the 3200-4000 calorie range. Ensure that these meals contain a balance of fats, carbs, and proteins, with your proteins being the #1 source. Its tough at first, but it will happen.

Do you always recommend a diet with majority proteins? With active individuals, especially with decent builds to start with, I have always had more success prescribing a diet higher in carbs then protein.

Since this is usually the lowest macro for most, yes I do. Also I dont mean anything outrageous but 40/30/30 or 35/35/30 is what say to shoot for. Noone is perfect and can match these numbers, but at least it gets em thinking.

What do you mean "this is the lowest macro for most"? I am not picking or anything, just want to know where you are coming from when you make these recommendations.

Thanks.
