New Member =)

hello everyone...i am new here and this is my first post hehe...i am 20 and i am from Mexico, i have to admit that i havent worked out since almost a year ago...and i am embarrased to say my current weight,i will just say that i am overweight ... but after browsing this site i decided to start a healthier way of life.

I have no money to go to a specialist, i know i need to change my eating habits, i want to workout... i used to do aerobics, cardio and weight lifting...but my brother (he is a doctor) told me that i first need to lose at least 40 lbs with diet so i can start working out and dont hurt my knees

Are there any tips you can give me to start with?

First off welcome to the forum! The good news is you do not need a specialist. Proper diet, cardio and resistance training are all you need. I don't recommend (and I'm sure I'm not alone here) you try to lose 40 lbs via diet alone. There are plenty of ways to train without hurting your knees. :)

Welcome. If you try to lose 40 lbs without help of some cardio/weights/exercise, you'll be lucky to see results. There are plenty of activities to do that are easy on knees (eliptical, bike) and strength training.

First off ..welcome Arianna. Secondly, I don't think you necessarily have to lose any weight before starting to perform some light exercising, unless you are very much obese or have other physical limitations. I think even if you start walking daily it would be benficial for you. Also, clean up your diet and drink lots of water. That would at least be a starting point.

The doctor tells me not to run too much due to my weight, it would put too much stress on my knees in the long run. But remember I am much heavier than you could be (being a girl) so you should be fine. But if you're really worried, swim, bike, elipticals, and tons of other options are out there for you.

thank your for the welcome!!

i am not obese, well that's what i think im 5'7" and i weigh 235lbs...when i tell people my weight they cant believe i weight too much, but i think it is because i have a heavy bone structure...i dont have any difficulty doing excercise because i have done it in the past, but my bro said that in the future i will see the consequences on my knees...i will post a pic later

welcome aboard!
