New member needing to gain weight!!!

Hello. I'm new here. I am a female college student in the process of trying to gain weight. I am 5' 7" and, as of yesterday, only 90 lbs. This is a problem I've been struggling with for a couple years now and am sick and tired of fighting only to see no results. I currently have a pretty sedentary lifestyle and am consuming as much as 2700 calories a day. Over the past couple of weeks, since I've been forced to slow down physically, I have seen some weight gain. How can I best gain weight at a healthy level? The doctors have said I should gain two pounds a week, but considering it would be all in fat, is this way too much?! That seems crazy to me. Would it be safe and/or a good idea to start weight training now to gain weight? HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Yes - 2lbs/week would be mostly fat. 1lb/week while lifting weights would be better. In order to stimulate muscle you need to do weight bearing exercises.
If you do not have time or access to a gym, you can do a lot with a couple pairs of dumbells, and pushups, and crunches, and no, don't worry about looking too muscular. That won't happen unless you are taking steroids. To lower your percentage of body fat, you must increase your percentage of muscle. As Hulk Hogan would say, "Vitamins & exercise - that's what it's all about!". Get some extra protein in your diet too!

You can do it!

I agree with yi5hedr3, Ms. Karcher its never too late to start exercising. I understand you are a student so I wouldnt recomend a regular personal training but would definintely go and speak to one and get a program writen customized just for your needs.

Once thats done I would focus on the happy thoughts and events in our daily life and not worry too much about the results. That way I manifest and set a positive thought pattern also knowing that I am doing the best I can to better my life and whatever happens is meant to happen.

You will always have our best wishes by your side. SO go girl !
