Hi everyone, new girl here. My name is Brandi and I started out my
weight loss journey at 270lbs which is the most I have ever weighed!
I have struggled with my weight my whole life but never thought I would
let myself go this much. I am tired of always being the fat girl, it has
always taken its toll on my self esteem and since of self worth.

I just recently got married in March to a wonderful man and I know he'd
love me no matter what I look like but for my own sake and the sake of
my health I would like to get myself back down to a reasonable weight. I
would love to go shopping for new clothes or have my picture taken
instead of dreading it like I do now. My husband and I are going to Hawaii
in December on our honeymoon which gives me 6 months to change
because the way I am doing it now is not working anymore. I know I won't
reach my goal weight by December but I would like to lose a good 35lbs
by then.

My biggest problem is that I have trouble staying or even getting
motivated. I am glad that I ran across this board. Reading your stories has
really inspired me. It's nice to know I am not the only one out there going
through these struggles. I am not really sure where to begin with this
problem of mine, it's been out of hand for much longer than it should
have been but I figured this place was a good start.

Thanks for listening!
Brandi

welcome brandi... :) you've come to the right place for support and encouragement...

you can do whatever you put your mind to... and it looks like your trip to hawaii will be just the motivation that you need.

Your goal is reasonable and theres no reason why you can't achieve it... :)

Here is something that I have been tought - and I really beleive it.

Motivation - you start out having to force yourself to be a certain way - and then after you force yourself, you become motivated. It may be the results your seeing that motivate you, or whatnot - but - you will become motivated.

Once you start on a new way of life - (diet) it really does become that. You start making better judgements - then the judgements will become routine.

You can do it! Oh, and welcome by the way!!!

Hi & welcome!!! You totally can do this!!! I find that logging on here and reading/posting every day really does huge things for helping me stay motivated!

Hi Brandy and welcome to the forum. Being motivated goes hand in hand with habit. Make your new found healthy habits law and the rest will fall into place. Hawaii???? I've never ever been there but would love to go. :D

I agree. Each little step that you take makes the next step that much easier to make. Once you have made a few of those steps, you can start a routine and that becomes habit.

Support is definatly the best place to start ... but, I would also look for support at home. Talk to your husband about what you want to do and get him involved. It is much easier to accomplish any goal if there is more than one pushing you along ... you can motivate each other. You didn't mention what size your husband is, but any kind of diet change can only be good for both of you, so he should get involved too.

The biggest success to weight loss will come from your diet (not to be confused with "dieting"). "dieting" = unhealthy ... a "diet" is a way of life, not something you do short term to lose weight.

And, from that, I had a trainer tell me a couple years ago (and I've heard it countless times since), that each part of your meal should be about the size of your fist. So, for example, your meat, vegetables and pasta should each only be the size of your fist ... sounds reasonable, right? Now, think of the standard meal of pasta most of us eat ... it's a whole plate and we eat till we are full (and possibly more after that). When your body says you are full, you've eatin way too much.

Junk food: why is it such a problem that we can't seem to just eat a little bit .... because there is no nutrional value and your body wants you to keep eating them until it finds some. It's not the taste that keeps us eating until we've finished a whole bag.
