New member, looking for a little help with my setup

Hey everyone,

Im new here but this forum looks like a great place for a new guy like me to get my learn on!

I have a few questions if anyone would be so kind to answer. I've been a little overweight and out of shape for quite some time now. I've decided to get serious about my fitness and health and am in the process of setting up a home workout room. Last night I picked up a pretty nice looking, solid little york weight bench and about 100 pounds of iron weight to start. The bar that came with it however is pretty rusty and wobbly (purchased the gear second hand) so im going to be picking up a new bar and some dumbbell bars tonight or tommorow.

My first question is.. what type of bar should I be looking for? I've been looking at my local department stores and im seeing straight bars and ez curl bars. I can only afford one bar right now, and im wondering which would be better? Im thinking the straight bar will allow for a broader range of workouts. Am I correct?

Second question.. after doing some research I think im going to do a 3 day / week lifting routine with 5 days / week cardio. Does this sound right? I need to get some more advice or do some research on specific weight training exercises to do on specific days, but I understand its good to allow rest between sessions.. so I think 3 days should be good. Is it ok to do this much cardio on top of the weight training? Is it ok to do cardio on the same days?

Third question.. I also recently started the 100 pushups program. I was able to do only 2 good form pushups on my first day. Now a week later I can do 12 good form pushups. Is it ok to be doing this pushup routine on top of my weight training? Or will that be overtraining?

I know these questions may seem simple or silly, But I want to make sure I start this the right way. I tried working out in the past but never seemed to have a solid understanding of what I needed to be doing.

I do have some other questions, But i will save them for later in the thread. One step at a time

Thank you to anyone who responds.
