Hello all,

Ive been trying to loose some weight for awhile now with luck. Im a 6'0 tall male 25 years old. I started at 235 pounds when i started working out everyday and im now down to 193 in a little under 3 months. I run 2-3 miles a day on the treadmill and lift. The problem is im now stuck at this weight for about 3 weeks now. I dont do anything different im just stuck. My problem is i only eat everyday when i come home from work at around 6-7 at night then maybe a snack at 9. I know this isnt good for me which is why i need some help. Im guessing i only take in about maybe 900 or less calories a day. Its not on purpose im just not hungry and i unfortunatly got "Stuck" in this routine and im trying to break it. I eat very healthy when i do eat, chicken, fish..vegatables alot of salad and greens no fast food, or ice cream or candy.. only whole wheat bread etc. etc. Im looking for any ideas or suggestions on what to do or how to eat to loose more weight.

My goal is to get down to about 180 or until im at least happy with how i look

Thanks in advance for the help..

You're just going to have to man up and eat, unfortunately. Try eating smaller, balanced meals more consistently throughout the day. You appetite will adjust accordingly with time.

I can tell you that what you're doing now is a surefire highway to frustration. The scale means jackshit if you look and feel like hell.

thanks guys,,

i agree, i just feel like if i eat alot more evan small portions that it doesnt make sense to me. Is there anywhere or some kind of example of how i can prepare 4-6 meals or snacks a day for myself? Should i be taking in about 1500 calories per day? Im not sure how to approach the situation.

In general a good place to start for weight loss is 12 calories per pound. From here, you adjust accordingly based on progress.

If you feel like you're eating too much at 900 calories given your size, that would lead me to believe you have some real issues with your relationship with food.... as in, if you were my friend I'd be concerned for you.

I am 180ish lbs at the moment and a typical weight loss diet would look something like this for me:

Meal 1:

1/2 cup oatmeal
1 serving raisins
1 serving honey
1 cup milk
1 serving whey protein powder
2 fish oil caps

Meal 2:

4 oz. chicken
1 serving grapes
1 serving brocolli
2 fish oil caps

Meal 3:

4 oz lean ground beef
1 apple
2 fish oil caps
1/2 cup brown rice

Meal 4:

4 oz. turkey breast
2.5 oz. whole wheat pasta
1 serving cheese
1 serving tomoato sauce

Meal 5:

1 serving whey in milk
nuts
some beef jerkey

Damn, that a lot of fish oil. Why so much Steve? I started taking it awhile back but I only take like 2 capsules a day. Am I missing something?

Depends on how much EPA/DHA each pill contains. Mine contain 180/120 respectively. Much of the research showing all the crazy benefits from it use 8-10 grams or even higher.

It's not really a lot if you think about it. Each pill is 1 gram of fat.

Thanks steve,

Thats alot of food you eat, today for breakfast i had a muscle milk light shake, for lunch i may try to eat a salad or something along those lines and then have a normal dinner..

Can i substitute meals with protien shakes? or bars?

Also should this start yto take an effect right away with my weight loss or is it going to take a few weeks until my body adjusts? anything i should look for?

That's a start. You want to work toward eating balanced meals that contain some protein, carbs and fat.

Can i substitute meals with protien shakes? or bars?

Bars in general suck.

Protein shakes are different from meal replacements. Regardless though, it's best to get your food from whole sources so that is what you should be working toward.

You might even gain weight depending on what sort of metabolic 'disturbance' you've caused by eating so few calories. The point is to fix the problem so you can start dieting using sane tactics in the future.

Your goal for now should be to work your way back up to a maintenance intake where you'll sit for a couple of weeks to let some things readjust.

From there, you can start dieting again using sane tactics.

I agree with Steve and edco76 to eat more and throughout the day, not just the evening. Eating not enough calories can mess with your metabolism, as Steve noted, and make it even more difficult for you to lose weight. Losing weight can be awfully frustrating at times, especially during plateau periods. It’s normal to have plateaus. Think of plateaus as your body adjusting to being leaner. Continue follow a regimen of healthy eating and exercise for a healthy weight loss.

Best wishes on your progress.

I agree with what people are saying here. I had a similar problem where I got to a point and wasn't shedding any more pounds. What helped is I started taking some of the ShapeWorks shakes for breakfast and lunch. I also made sure that when I snacked it wasn't on the high-calorie junk food. There are some healthy snacks out there. Drink 6-8 classes of water a day, that made a difference too. And it already seems you are eating a sensible meal which is good. Be sure to get adequate protein as well. You need that to maintain a lean body mass because this determines your metabolic rate. Anyhow, that's what worked for me. Good luck.
