Hi, I'm brand new here. I've tried so many times and failed to lose and keep weight off. I'm 65, (just), female, retired with some health issues. All the different advice out there is driving me crazy. Don't eat carbs, don't eat gluten, don't eat sugar, don't eat dairy, don't drink coffee, don't drink alcohol, give up meat. You know what I mean. I need something I can live with. I've been off and on so many diets that I'm always eating like I'm about to be deprived of all tasty food again. I think eating clean and tracking calories is the best thing for me. I want to increase exercise but I have health issues that are always tripping up my exercise plans. I catch a lot of colds because I have scar tissue from past sinus surgery which makes me vulnerable and when I get one, I can keep it for a while. My knees aren't so great, I have issues with my right shoulder, I've had problems with pelvic prolapse, etc., etc. I want to lose 40 to 50 pounds. I need your help. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, there are a few older members here so you are not alone.

Most of your common diet styles do work, the trick is finding the right one for you, for most people that means simply eating in moderation.

The diary section https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ is where you will find the most support. Starting a diary thread will allow you to log your current food and exercise which will make it easier for other members to offer suggestions.

What sort of exercise are you currently doing ? If this is posted in the diary section I will try to help when I can, as I will be away from the forum for a short time starting tomorrow.

Honestly, I think you might be overcomplicating things. Its all about consistency in your diet. Personally I would recommend you use an app like myfitnesspal to track your calories and stick to what it recommends you can consume based on your age, height and weight. As long as you do that consistently you should start to see changes. Don't worry if you have off days, we all do. But it's important to get back on the horse the following day. I also would not worry too much about exercising at the minute if you are not up to it. Get your diet dialled in first. Get in the habit of tracking your calories and sticking to your daily allowance. It's the most important thing when it comes to weight loss. And good luck! You can do this!
