New Guy Looking For Advice

Greetings All,

I'm 28 years old and I'm just starting this whole workout/eat healthier concept and I'm a little nervous. I have planned out my meals which seems to be something I would actually stick with (oatmeal, turkey sandwiches, fish, chicken, apples, bananas, peanut butter, etc) so I'm really looking forward to that.

I'm nervous about the workout out part of this. I work for the Department of Homeland Security and my time is limited and the only thing I have an abundance of, is stress (which I've heard is not good). I bought a bowflex and I'm looking at working out 5 times a week (my world revolves around a 9 day week). And I'm also starting to bike about 4 times a week about 1 1/2 hours each time.

I found a website that told me I should eat 1800 calories a day to lose weight so I made sure my daily meals equal 1800, in addition to burning about 900 of those during a bike ride plus a Bowflex workout in the same day.

I just wanted to put this out to the group (since you guys know a lot more about this than I do) and let everyone look over it and see if I have any obvious gaps. If I'm missing some crucial element, please let me know.

Hope all is well,

Mike

You really need more calories. You're living on 900 - not counting what you burn on the bowflex and by merely existing. If you posted your diet and goals (lose weight, I assume?), someone more knowledgeable than me could probably give you a few pointers.

Here's what I've planned....

My goal is to lose at least 30 lbs within the next 7 months (and obviously build a LOT of muscle mass). I hear a lot of people gain weight while they bulk up during the summer, and then diet to lose weight (to look good in the spring) but I don't know if that works or not. I'm also not sure if what I've come up with will be enough to facilitate the change I'm looking for but I'm more than open to your thoughts/ideas/comments.

Hope all is well,

Mike
