Hello everyone, I'm Dave.

I weigh about 350lbs, and am 6'0 tall. I have fraternal twin daughters that just turned five, and I'd like to see them grow up.

I have both schizophrenia and PTSD, so I do not get out much, which is why I have never joined a gym. I'm not looking for some crazy crash diet/unrealistic "lose 50lbs in a day!" type scam, but am looking for pointers, exercises I can do around the house. I lift 10lbs weights, but that's not much. I'm also concerned about heart rate, as when I do exercise, I begin to panic and think I'm having a heart attack, which leads to a panic attack.

I'd also like to find some pointers on diet and ways to speed a metabolism, healthily. Antipsychotics are prone to slowing down metabolism and creating a sense of false hunger (want to gain weight? Go on psych meds).

Thank you in advance.

I work out completely from home and have built my own routine using every day items to build muscles and lose weight. I can send some tips your way. I like your mentality that is a great thing to have in this journey. Increased heart rate is good, you want it elevated for a period of 30 minutes or so from the normal level. But don't push yourself. I'd recommend getting something to monitor it so you can stay calm and look at it and not get too worried. I'd start with basic routines if you're not up for high intensity just yet. What kind of exercising do you do currently? What are your eating habits like? What are your short term and long term weight goals?

To speed up metabolism here are some quick advice that I've been using and having it work. These foods are specific to metabolism. Ice cold water when you first wake up is a must. Body has to work early and gives it a bit of a boost. Eat a breakfast, maybe 2 eggs, a piece of chicken, tomato slices. Sprinkler crushed red pepper and black pepper on the eggs, chicken, tomato. Crushed red pepper and black pepper both have natural properties that help elevate metabolism. Wait two hours or so, eat a grapefruit. Grapefruit is filling and has a great source of nutrients. Enjoy a lunch sometime after, that includes a healthy source of protein, vegetable(s). Cucumbers are great as well for metabolism. Adding in your crushed red pepper and black pepper too, these should be included whenever you can get them in. Enjoy a handful of almonds sometime later. Dinner should have good protein again, vegetable, maybe add a salad in before hand. Enjoy your caffeinated coffee, but in moderation, a great boost for metabolism. Green tea, have 3-4 glasses a day, it'll fire up the metabolism. Enjoy brown rice, oatmeal, whole grain fibers take more to break down which means your body has to work harder. Lentils are a great source of iron, fiber, and metabolism spikers.

Sorry for writing a novel, just wanted to give you a starting point. Welcome to the forum. Start up a diary, great way to follow others, keep yourself in line, keep your goals oriented and keep you motivated.
