Gang,
I bought my kids a Wii some months ago, at that time the Wii Fit had just come out....it was quite expensive and unavailable, I didn't get it. For the most part my wife relegates the Wii as being a game that is little more then interactive television...and indeed, the kids basically just play games while they essentially sit there.
Well...today in the store we saw a new game for the Wii...it's the Active Life OUTDOOR ADVENTURE.....and this thing is GREAT. It's greatest quality: it's Fitness disguised as a game!!!!!
No free-weights of course, but you have jump rope, run/dashes, hurdles, all sorts of stuff. I just got done doing team jump rope with my daughter and I'm actually quite sweaty...and so is she!! One game in particular gets you going: Mole Stomping....the premise to all these games is a floor mat with several zones....you have to stomp on these moles as they pop-up, hilarious fun...and when the center mole pops up, you have to stand in place in the center and run in place as absolutely quickly as you can. You play against opponents, you play as a team, you have fun FUN FUN and you will sweat!
I don't think this is going to be a fad....there are so many games, variations and challenges that my kids will be playing this for quite some time, and they all got quite sweaty/tired/worn doing it. EXCELLENT.
Here's a sneaky game....you're in a mine cart crusing down a mine shaft on a rail....you have to do squats like you're pumping the ore car to move...while doing squats for speed, you also have to jump where the tracks are missing AND into the corners you have to lift-up one foot and suspend yourself while going through the corner: total core stabilization, isometrics and all sorts of stuff. The ice-sleding even involves sitting on the mat and using your triceps to move along!
It's fitness disguised as fun....absolutely excellent for the kids and quite fun & challenging. Can't recommend it enough! Price is about $59...about the same price you pay for one session with a trainer.
Hit it!
