New Fitness game for the Wii; excellent!!!!

Gang,

I bought my kids a Wii some months ago, at that time the Wii Fit had just come out....it was quite expensive and unavailable, I didn't get it. For the most part my wife relegates the Wii as being a game that is little more then interactive television...and indeed, the kids basically just play games while they essentially sit there.

Well...today in the store we saw a new game for the Wii...it's the Active Life OUTDOOR ADVENTURE.....and this thing is GREAT. It's greatest quality: it's Fitness disguised as a game!!!!!

No free-weights of course, but you have jump rope, run/dashes, hurdles, all sorts of stuff. I just got done doing team jump rope with my daughter and I'm actually quite sweaty...and so is she!! One game in particular gets you going: Mole Stomping....the premise to all these games is a floor mat with several zones....you have to stomp on these moles as they pop-up, hilarious fun...and when the center mole pops up, you have to stand in place in the center and run in place as absolutely quickly as you can. You play against opponents, you play as a team, you have fun FUN FUN and you will sweat!

I don't think this is going to be a fad....there are so many games, variations and challenges that my kids will be playing this for quite some time, and they all got quite sweaty/tired/worn doing it. EXCELLENT.

Here's a sneaky game....you're in a mine cart crusing down a mine shaft on a rail....you have to do squats like you're pumping the ore car to move...while doing squats for speed, you also have to jump where the tracks are missing AND into the corners you have to lift-up one foot and suspend yourself while going through the corner: total core stabilization, isometrics and all sorts of stuff. The ice-sleding even involves sitting on the mat and using your triceps to move along!

It's fitness disguised as fun....absolutely excellent for the kids and quite fun & challenging. Can't recommend it enough! Price is about $59...about the same price you pay for one session with a trainer.

Hit it! :)

i have never seen that game but i cant get over this video

I wouldn't stress on that video too much, opinions are like trainers....everyone's got one and they're a pain in the ass! ;) j/k

I don't know about the Wii Fit.....it was all the rage but from what I heard it was kinda weak. The Fit is about taking you through a workout of sorts, not so much a game, no competitive purpose.

This game, Outdoor Adventure, uses a large floor mat that requires you to move in 10 different directions sideways and up & down...some of the games aren't all that demanding, but several of them will have you moving very quickly. My kids are laughing & sweating and they've been at it for hours...and you can bet tomorrow morning they'll wake-up early and be on it again. As far as I'm concerned, it's a success. The secret is disguising exercise as fun/games. It's got my vote and I really don't think they're marketing this as a workout or fitness program...but they do tote is as "Active Life"

Can't you just go outside and do those things?

Ty-man.....you don't have kids, do ya?

Seriously, you have to find motivation & fun for kids where and when you can. It's like an epidemic, kids are so lathargic nowadays, they're all addicted to tv, video games, nintendo DS, game-boy, the Internet, etc: if you can convert a video game or anything that involves looking into a monitor into exercise.....you're golden!!!!

Fact is, my kids are given an allotment of tv/video-game time....if I can manipulate and encourage some exercise into that time, then all the better. But yeah, they still have their bikes, jump rope and other activities.

I have 2 :D My daughter has allocated TV time too, she's a Scooby Doo addict. I'm not knocking your kids playing computer games, it's just that the Wii-fit thing makes me feel a little queezy, it just seems so wrong, like pilates :yelrotflmao:

I'll post a pic later of my 4 y/o doing the deepest ATG squat you'll ever see then rising into a push press :D She uses resistance bands as that's what I've got her mum using to get back in shape.
