New and need proven advice I can trust

Hey everyone -

Really excited to join this forum. I'm 35, and in decent shape (though not the best of my life). I have always been athletic and participated in team sports. Compare to the general population, I'm fairly athletic. Compared to athletes, I'm average at best.

Anyway, here's my story (and a few questions):

I've historically had problems with mental and physical fatigue. Feeling drained and tired much of the day. Also, had problems with hypoglycemia (though that seems to be gone), which is where your body has a hard time regulating sugar, and then you feel so shaky and dizzy...just like you're going to collapse in the middle of intense physical activity. I don't feel like moving at all.

I don't have problems with that anymore. The solution has been to eat foods high in protein - 2 daily protein shakes, cheese, yogurt, nuts, meat, and so on.

That works. And it keeps me feeling full. I can feel ravenously hungry after eating empty carbs...like spaghetti. So, I don't eat white grains anymore. Only brown for the complex carbs.

I've greatly reduced my salt and sugar intake because I have naturally high blood pressure. Avoid foods like pizza, beer, ice cream...and the like.

So I've dropped from a lifetime high of 201-203 and weigh around 187...and feel great!

I exercise just 2x per week (basketball on weekends), and want to get in probably another 2 days during the week when it warms up here in Wisconsin.

Anywho...I want to feel energetic because there's so much to do every day. I'd like to get down to 170ish (ideally). And I'd like to work out 4 times per week or so. That could include some weights too.

I don't know much about the body, natural supplements, or what's best to do. There's so much crap out there, and frankly, I'm sick and tired of other people yelling about how I'm supposed to eat and live.

However, I am here for advice, so willing to take it. But I want to know what works and why...not just the latest thing you're supposed to do because everyone else does it.

Above all, I want to perform to the best of my ability in all areas of my life. And physical/mental health is a huge key to that.

Excited to push things further and to hear what you have to say.

Dan
