New and confused

Hello all. I guess I'm a novice. That is, I've done my share of mountain hiking but I've never been an athlete. Now I'm getting serious, training at least 4 times a week, and I've gained 10 kilograms of muscle in the past 4 months. Bought a good mountain bike and fell in love with it! Mountain slopes are hands down my favorite workout and so beautiful too.
Do some weights, but only dumb bells. I don't know if I'd like a gym or not.

Question: I read about workouts on the net and they always seem very cautious. I can understand keeping your heart rate below dangerous levels, but let's face it: if you're going to climb over 400 meters in one shot, you WILL be out of breath (unless you are REALLY in shape) and no, you cannot really speak much for a long stretch. And your heart rate will be out at the upper limits for probably 5-10 minutes at a time, successively. Light-headedness? A bit. Not enough to risk losing balance or anything. Mild. Is this dangerous? How else can you climb the mountain?

Welcome aboard :)

Welcome to the forum. I do not think it is dangerous if you have been handling it for a while. I guess most sports are about extending yourself to the highest limit.

Hey I dont think it is dangerous I also get like that when I go for a bike but after a little while of training It lessened for me It will probably be the same for you as your body becomes more conditioned to the type of activity you are doing.

You should get yourself a good heart rate monitor and train using a method called 'base training'...which will make your body efficient and increase your stamina and endurance.

Welcome.

I agree - out of breath is fine. You have to push yourself to make progress. If you start getting dizzy or sick or anything, think about your intensity and drop it down a notch.
