Needing a little support

I have been trying for a while to get my weight under control. It seems like I am out of options. I dont understand how I let myself get the way I am and I found this web site hoping to find some kind of support or motivation to get me on the right track to a better, healthier life style. If anyone has any "new comer" advice please share.

Thanks
Stuck:confused:

Welcome. No more fast food, drive thrus, or restaurants. Buy only the healthiest foods from your grocery store, with your entire food budget. I recommend lean meats like boneless skinless chicken breasts and/or tenderloins, and gordon's frozen fish fillets, different flavors and grilled salmon. I cook the meats on george foreman grill which is super fast, easy and cheap, and takes out even more fat and oil. Frozen vegetables that come in microwaveable packages, with or without sauces, your preference. For snacks and dairy, Dannon has a great 'carb & sugar control' yogurt thats only 60 calories per container. I eat great using these foods. They are so filling and make you feel great. I can eat plenty of nutrients with these in a day, often under 1,000 calories and still not feel hungry. I've lost 25+ lbs in the past 7 weeks, and the belt tightens more each and every day. Best of luck to you and your own 'personalized diet', its the very best way to go.

Just remember Mdeese - YOU ARE WORTH IT!!! We all know how hard it is and you're not alone. If it was easy then everyone would be thin. You can do it if you're ready and it sounds to me like you are definitely ready to make some changes. All you need now is a plan of action, what kind of diet and exercise are you planning?

humm what kind of diet should I do???? Good question, there are only 1000 of them out there.:D I have no idea if I should do low fat, low carb, low cal. I dont even know the what would be the best for my body weight or type. I think the only safe thing that you can eat in this world is water and celery:eek:

Hi Mdeese.

The type of diet kinda depends on your weight, and goals.

Just remember, there are a lot of very strange diets out there, personally for me I just did a google on Nutrition and started there. Educate yourself on how your body uses food, and don't just take a book or a person word for word. Once you learn the why's, the how's fill themselves in usualy.

Just remember, no matter what you read, its fairly simple, if you use more calories than you eat, you loose weight. If you eat more than you use, you gain weight. Finding the balance sometime is a little tricky, but the bottom line is always this =)

A "Good" diet is one you can fit into your lifestyle, and make the change a lifelong one.

sjohnson - You are sooo right about that, education is the key - losing weight is different for everyone. I have had alot of people tell me to do this or do that but I just try to not let them get me down or confuse me. I dont believe belive in cutting entire food groups out of my diet to lose weight. It's one of the reasons I love WeightWatchers so much, it allows you to eat the foods you want and doesnt cut anything out. Its all about education and portion control.

mdeese - make sure u do your research before jumping into anything. The last thing u need when starting out is the discouragement of a failed diet that was just too restrictive and difficult to follow. I know people who have passed out because of those "low (or no) carb" diets and a friend of mine ended up in the hospital with serious digestive problems cuz of one of the "shake" diets.

Good Luck with whatever you do decide to do!!! Keep us posted!

Welcome. I've struggled for YEARS. Know i've lost 12 pounds in one month. This is what I do-throw out all junk food, Propolene pills, vitamins, water, and exercise 45 mins a night. I know its a lot to thow at you, but believe me it works. GOOD LUCK!!!

if this helps

Well, I am new on here too but one thing I have decided is to make exercise a priority and to give up ONE unhealthy thing at a time. Also, try to drink more water. Hopefully this greenhorn is helpful!

me, too

I'm new, too. Just about done with my first 30 days. I agree that you should take it one step at a time, making healthy changes as you go. A good first step is to spend a little time just getting real about what you are putting in your face. That's what I had to do. Writing it down helps.

Read Troutman's diary from the beginning. It's insirational, and a good example of how you don't have to change EVERYTHING all at once to experience long term success.

As you can see you will get lots of support no matter what path you choose. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
