As I was looking for a 5k to sign up for this summer, I discovered my town does not have any! So I was thinking since my town doesn't do anything during the day of July 4th, (we have local bands perform with fireworks and some kind of mega truck event at night) that a 5k run would be a fun event during the morning along with some kids fun runs and a 10k run too. I was thinking about having a lunch provided by the local HyVee, and I think we could do it in their parking lot, along with a band. We have about 12,000 residents, and I think this would go great. I have never organized something like this, so I am really needing advice. Am I getting in over my head here? I know I could get everything donated except the band, which I could probably be able to get sponsered by the company I work for. My community is great on donating food and money to get their names on a sponser board. Has anyone else ever put together something like this?
EDIT: The night time stuff isn't free, so I thought it would be nice to have a free community event during the day for families. Maybe have the athletes purchase a T-Shirt for $10 with signup.
