Need to lose 30 pounds...

Hey, I'm new here but have noticed a great community which is why I registered.

But, I'm 17 about 6'0 and 224lbs. I would like to get down to 180 or even lower before prom, May/June time of year. I'm purchasing a membership the YMCA tomorrow and need some help to get myself going in the right direction.

Any help would be appreciated and I would like to say thanks in advance.

If your prom is at the end of May, you could get right around 180 at 2 pounds a week weight loss, but keep it mind, that is a huge amount of weight to lose every week. If your ideal weight is 180, the last 10-15 pounds are suppose to be the hardest to lose and often 1 pound a week is hard to take off.

Two pounds a week is very doable, but will take a lot of commitment in both diet and exercise. It might not be realistic if you are starting out exercising right now.

I would say get to the gym 6 days a week if you have a gym and do cardio and lift weights. Eat healthy, drink water, take vitamins.

Try not to focus on a number and just your smaller goals of eating well, doing your routine and the weight will come off as it will. I think you'll be happier in the end.

Good luck.

Thank you so much, I will try to lose the weight but I didn't think it would be tough. I'm going to have to find a gym partner or something.

Thanks for the advice and the Good luck!

hey just thought i'd add...don't get stressed if you don't lose the pounds you want to lose. yes it is tough most of the time but don't rely on the scale too much. it fluctuates massively and is not very accurate in showing progress from my experience. take measurements and set some mini goals. you will probably see changes in the way your body looks before chages on the scale.

good luck with your journey

Hey there mate, im the same 231lb n same age/height as you.
I go to the gym 3x a week, trust me its alot better at the gym if you have a friend to go with you.

I see this kid has just joined the gym I go to, hes short and really fat, looks about 14-15. His mom drops him off and he just sits around on the machines that you can sit on, e.g the ones to work your legs, and does the lowest weight. Basically hes just being a lazy git.

When you go, do a few stretches in the changing room, go in there, jump on an excercise bike or treadmill for 10min to get everything warmed up.

Heres what I do with weights, which is good btw mate.

On any weight machine, start with a very low weight and do 10. Then put the weight up a notch or two and do 10. Then up a notch or two again and do 8. Then finally up a notch or two again and do only 6. After this, if you want, 'pump out'. This means put a low weight on and do as many as you can till your arms hurt. I do it.

10, 10, 8, 6.

Do that for 2-3 weeks, then to save going stale...start doing 10, 8, 6 and pump out, just generally mix it around a bit you know.

It works mate, its like a pyramid.

Thank you so much, as today I have rid myself of soft drinks and tea(which I love btw) and now drinking ice water. The local YMCA isn't open today so I couldn't go, which is really going to hurt my exercise routine. I plan on going tomorrow and doing what you and others have said.

Thanks alot!

well done!!! :hurray:

don't cut things you love out alltogether. limit yourself to how much you are going to consume of it. otherwise from my experience it leads to binging which is not soo good for your confidence or health!
