Hey guys,
So basically for the last year or so I've been doing relatively the same weight lifting routine: on average 4 days a week.. bicep/tricep, rest, shoulders, rest, chest/back, rest, start over. Sometimes i would do shoulders after bicep/tricep without a day of rest or i'd mix in some cardio on the days of rest. For the most part my routine remained the same in terms of sets & reps & most of the exercises I've been doing. I've gotten bigger and stronger but it seems that over the past 2-3 months I've been gaining some body fat. I don't why this is because I have a really healthy, low-carb, high protein diet and because I work out almost every day I can't see why this has been happening. I think I'm starting to figure it though... i sometimes tend to rest more than necessary in between sets and i'm doing the same routines without pushing my muscles hard enough... like i don't sweat at all during workouts and yeah obviously i push my muscles to an extent but it's starting to feel like i'm just going through the motions. i decided to switch it up yesterday and do a superset workout for my arms and do different exercises and it was the first time in a while that my arms felt swole as hell after my workout! my biceps were totally shot. by working tricep while my bicep rested for each exercise i wasn't allowing myself rest and i really felt like i was getting a great workout. and on top of that, i really worked up a sweat and got my heartbeat up, something that has been lacking in my workouts, and i've been trying to compensate for with cardio lately.
To sum it up, I really need to start getting leaner and more cut and shed off some body fat, so I'm thinking of going at like 75% of my previous weight and doing circuit / superset training to really get my heartrate up and shed bodyfat as well as get defined muscle. I don't want to get huge anyways, I'd rather be fairly big but lean and defined. Looks much better and I think it's a healthier route. I think I've just been on the same routine for way too long. Do you guys think this will work? What do you suggest?
Any feedback really helps. Appreciate it.
