Need to ask something about my office job

Hello all, I am really strugling with this so I thought I would post on here to see what people think.

-I work at an estate agents.
-I have been with the company worked in the same office (lets call it office A) for just over a year.
-They have now told me to work at another office (office B) for a month, which I have done.
-Now the month is up I have spoke to management and they have said there isn't a position at office A for me to go back to.

So I am stuck at office B with people that I don't get on with and also unhappy about the location because I have a 10 mile (approx 16km) trip to the gym. (office A was less than a mile to the gym I have signed up to). There are no other good gyms near office B as it is in a rural area.

Am I being treated unfairly? (office A and B are the same distance from my home, just in different directions)

I have not had any extra reimbursment/compensation/money for going to office B.

Perhaps, but there isn't much you can do about it.

You can ask for it but unless you have something written and signed that says they promised you to go back to office A, then I agree with Dallen.

The only thing you can do, seems to be...

You can make your argument heard, the squeaky wheel always gets the oil....

Or gets replaced with a quieter wheel :p Can you maybe get "wait listed" for the next available space at office A as it were? Call first dibs on any available openings there to transfer back when you can?

Usually it's more expensive to replace tire due to a squeak, oil is easier.

You can express your dissatisfaction with your present situation. Don't expect them to care, though.

I'd look for another job because it sounds like you're getting the shaft.

I don't know what the job situation is like where you live, though. It's pretty good in Calgary. It's fairly easy to find another job within a few days, and it's usually for more money.

Good luck.

Which country do you live in? That’ll affect your answer a lot

If it were the UK then they might have acted unlawfully as you never agreed to a transfer and they’ve moved your place of work by enough distance to cause you to be inconvenienced. Also, you’d find it very easy to argue that their actions were premeditated by moving you for a short period before denying you the chance to move back. Go to a lawyer and ask him if there’s a chance you could argue that it’s a ploy to make you unhappy and leave

Before you do anything else though, check your contract. My contract has a fixed place of work in it; yours might stipulate a region rather than specific office as your place of work. If they’ve changed your place of work without your consent then they are in breach of contract

But as I say, that’s just the UK

When did 10 miles become a far distance?

It's not so much about distance, but rather how fast can you get there. If you're spending a long time sitting in traffic, 10 miles can take over 30-40 minutes to go to. Factor that into your regular commute time, and you can be spending roughly an hour to just travel to get there and home.

It depends on how you get there :D

I'm thinking of London, 10 miles is a long way in this city as you have to pay about $12 a day just to drive your car into London so everyone either walks, gets a cab or uses public transport (not recommended). As it's too far to walk then extra travelling expenses will be incurred by the member of staff which they weren't expecting to have to pay when they signed their contract
