Need strategy for 40yr old with good situation

Basic issue: Want to lose weight (fat) but no idea on strategy

Background: Turning 42 soon, previous diet was less than ideal, little exercise, previous job was stressful

Currently: Still turning 42, in a super unique situation with work as they provide breakfast and lunch and snacks. Food is quality as there is a dietician on site, and there is always variety. Snack are also available and can range from potato chips to epic bars and everything in between. Also available are drinks...again, everything from soda to water to gatorade, etc..also there is a gym on site that is available.....treadmills, weight machines, rowing machines, etc...

Currently Pt.2: I have been trying to eat a breakfast of scrambled eggs with pico, some bacon and maybe sausage and maybe a tortilla. Lunch depends on what is on menu, but trying to keep to lean meats ad veggies....trying to avoid fried foods and excessive carbs. End of day I go to gym and work out for an hour which is basically treadmill, last week started 1hr on treadmill of 10 min walking, then 5 min running, then repeat until it's been 60 mins.

The Bad: Most of my day is at a desk, some walking. I only have about an hour to an hour and a half after work for gym, and I typically only go M-Th. I have no idea if the diet is working for me or against, no idea if the gym routine is good or bad, and no idea what I can do to tweak it to work better for me. I have been at this for 2 months and barely lost any weight, but I have lost some.....not sure if it's just part of the process or if I have to do more in order to lose weight.

Afterthought: Fridays I sometimes go to happy hour with friends and have some drinks, I cut out Guinness and stick to straight whisky (not going to lie about this), Saturdays I spend with the lady friend and try to get chores done...Sundays I go to my parents house to do any work they need done around the house.

Summary: Need to lose weight, can't pass up on my current situation, but no idea what I am doing....any advice??

Brian,
It sounds like you're just winging it, but that's better than doing nothing, you are trying ... kudos to you. I would stay away from fade diets. I am 57 years old and 5 years ago I changed my eating lifestyle and lost 50 pounds and have kept off 40 of it. I am willing to share my experience if would like try it.

Hi Kevin, pretty much what I am doing....I went online and there is soooo much conflicting info out there, but what I can gather it's all just diet and exercise.....I am cutting out fast food and using the gym.....lost some weight already in the last two months (maybe 7-8lbs?) ...some advise I have received has been really strict on diet...like measuring out an exact qty of almonds and such...which I just can't do....I guess I was more interested in what exercises might be more helpful than others and what foods might help and which ones to avoid....I am sticking to this and hope to slim down enough :)

OK Good deal. I might suggest walking on the tread mill for 45 minutes at a speed and incline that raises your heart rate to the fat burning rate. There is a chart on my program download but you can probably get it of the internet just the same.
Good Luck

Originally I was using the treadmill at a high incline and at a good speed for 25 mins, then weights, then finishing with the same treadmill, but then I noticed my calves were getting huge :) So now I do a treadmill routine for 1 hour or 10 mins brisk walking (3.5 speed), then jogging for 5 mins, and then repeat again and again for an hour...that seems to work well for me....plus using smaller plates at work for my meals....just really tough do refrain myself sometimes....

Sounds like you have it under control.
