Need some help

OK I played sports my entire life until I graduated in 2006. Currently I play basketball ever so often, and tennis at least 2 times a week maybe 3. I'm moderately active I would say. I'm around 315 lbs, and I stand 5' 11'' tall and I have plenty of fat to spare I would say. I've never really wanted to lose wait until recently, no not because of a girl, or anything like that, but because my grandfather passed away from a heart attack that came out of no where with no signs or anything, and he was still working a full time job riding and exercise bike, and working on his farm everyday. It just hit him. And as I'm at a loss for words I think to myself that if it can happen to him it surely will happen to me. And I do not want that. So my plan that I would like to have it to have lost between 50lbs and 75lbs before July? I plan to base a diet off Atkins, I already drink diet drinks and water have been doing that for years with the occasional regular drink. Also activities like Basketball, and tennis, and also bike riding, down the road for a couple miles a day. I used to do this when i came home from football practice but that was a long time ago. Do you guys think this will be a good idea if I can stick to it?

Why do you think Atkins is a good idea?

This is May - Why do you think it's a good idea to lose that much weight in 2 months?

If your grandfather is the reason why you want to lose weight, then honor his memory and do it sensibly...

Homework time, skippy, start reading the stickied threads - start in nutrition and ask questions on those threads on what you don't understand... then move on to On Topic and exercise...

I think Atkins is more suited for me, the meal plan that I came up with is really closely related to it and would allow me to still eat, and not eat nasty stuff. I normally dont eat alot of carbs that much anyway, but I do eat pasta and pizza from time to time. I rarely eat sweet, and since I don't really drink regular soft drinks I'll be fine and it shouldn't be that hard to adapt too. And I want to do this before July because I start back to school and will not have that much time to do it.

I think it would be very helpful for you to sit down and write out what you eat in one day, being very honest with yourself. Use a calorie counting website to total up the calories. It sounds like you are active and you say your diet already resembles adkins so it would be good to 'discover' what caused you to reach 315 pounds.

It was very hard for me to realize and accept the things I did to become fat, but I believe it's an essential step before beginning a program. Sometimes we fool ourselves and truly believe we aren't doing 'that bad.' In reality, we are eating 2-3X's our maintenance level.

Just my advice, take it or leave it :) Best of luck to you!

Hi.

If you ceep doing all these sport - activities and dont stuff your body with calories, the weight scale will drop (Im sure of it.)

The main problem with people today is; too much food, and little or none activety.

No i said I wanted to arrange my diet around atkins, not that mine does now, the good thing that I have is that I dont really drink soft drinks that much. And I drink water and diet drinks, pretty much all the time.
