Need some help with motivation

Hi, I always say that I am going to work out tomorrow, and when the next day comes I say the same thing again. I just dont feel motivated to lose weight even though I really want to. I keep telling myself that I need to do something about it, but then I dont. I keep seeing my body is getting more and more disgusting and I want to fix that.
Can anyone give me some tips or tricks for getting motivation and not putting it off all the time?
Thanks for reading

Hey I would start a diary of your eating habits. Try to keep a small notepad near you to put entries in, and at the end off the night log them in here. Sounds like you need a little organization with your day and let's start off there and move up. Pm me for support

Hi AdrianN,

I think everyone struggles with this at some stage. Some days our motivation levels are high and the next day there low, its getting ourselves into the habit of working out everyday or on the days we have scheduled to work out.

So you need to write down a program you are going to stick everyday, if your trying to lose weight I would advise a program with 2 days weight training and 3 days cardio. Have the plan made out to what days exactly that your going to work out. Also your diet you need to track how many meals you ate on the day and marking it off that evening

When you complete your workout and diet for that day, cross it off in your diary for that day... It will give you a great sense of satisfaction when you have completed your workout for that day and this will give you momentum for creating the "HABIT" to work out everyday.

Also every morning as soon as you wake up, listen to motivational videos from youtube... I do this every morning to get me ready for the day.

Getting started is always the hardest part of anything but once you start to see results, that's when it gets easier... The "HABIT" comes into play and you almost do it on autopilot everyday from there.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

"Motivation is what gets you started, Habit is what keeps you going"

Hi Adrian,

I was just like you, but once I made the effort and started watching what I ate and going to the gym it was easy, I would say the biggest motivation for me was watching the weight fall off, it feels so good so make a start today Adrian and you will soon be feeling great.

Don't make exercise a chore.
Find something you enjoy, and something you can set goals and work at being better at. Something where you will want to be better at next time.
Or find a way to fit it into your lifestyle. Walking/ running/ cycling to work ect. Take the kids or dog for a walk. Take the other half dancing.

Any exercise is better than zero exercise.
Although bear in mind, the less you exercise, the harder you will have to diet to loose weight.

6 am slogs around the park in the middle of winter aren't everyone's idea of fun. Neither are they necessary.

Good luck

The greatest piece of advice I could offer is in suggesting that your destiny largely lies in your own hands, AdrianN. Despite acknowledging that you need to make a start, ultimately, it's your responsibility. Nobody is going lose the weight/increase your fitness for you.

If you don't take those steps, you'll only have yourself to blame for choosing not to take them. However, once that step has been taken, you begin upon the on the road.

Whilst you may consider my remarks to be somewhat harsh, on certain occasions, tough love is needed, allowing you to re-focus upon the task at hand.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I suspect the main reason behind your procrastination is due to the fact that you may not know exactly where to start. If this is the reason, then I wholly understand.

However, perspective needs to be applied with regard to weight loss/fitness, largely since neither were accumulated or lost overnight. As such, it’s going to take a little time to see gains in both. However, the sooner you make that start, the sooner those gains/losses are going to be achieved.

With regard to diet, as you begin upon your journey, attempt to omit as many energy dense foods (cakes/sweets/pastries) from your diet as possible, since they contain very little nutritional value, whilst increasing your consumption of whole foods. The more wholesome your diet, the less sugar and saturated fat it’s likely to contain.

Granted, portion control and gaining a clearer idea of one’s active BMR (research BMR calculators) also play a part in attaining weight loss, as does ensuring that daily lean protein intake amounts to at least 30% of daily calorie consumption.

As for exercise, in order to improve fitness and the amount of fat/glycogen expended throughout the endeavour (allowing you to change your body shape), consistency is the key. As your fitness increases, the harder and more strenuously you exercise, the greater those physiological and physical gains will be.

However, responsibility ultimately rests upon your shoulders, in ensuring that the chain of events begins, towards improving your current quality of life.

It's so much easier to start small! I feel that a lot of times when we try to lose weight, often we're so desperate to get smaller or fitter that we go overboard.

Try challenging yourself to make small changes in your physical activity: taking the stairs, parking farther, doing body-weight exercises during commercial, walking to a co-worker's desk instead of sending an email, etc.

What really helps me is to write those things down, even if I only did two squats during a commercial. It's a great way to show yourself that you are doing something.

Best of luck, and just keep plugging away, you'll get there!

Something I've started using is this app called Yaye - its a group health app. I'm in a group with my friends, and in the morning when I can't be bothered going to the gym, I see pics of my friends who had been to the gym and its get me off my backside! What's also cool, is when I post a workout, they send me claps and I can hear my phone "clapping" which is great cause its just that extra bit of motivation to pat me on the back! What's cool is that my friends can use it and some post food cause they're trying to eat healthy, while I post exercise - and it doesn't matter what level you are, everyone just supports everyone. Super fun.

Most of the people face the same problem. Only the winners come out from this. You are suffering from a problem but you are afraid to face It. But the best way to solve a problem is to face It. You just remove your lazy attitude. The man who can not give up his bad habits can not shine In life.

Hi Adrian.
these are some tips for you:
- Print out your goal in big words. Make your goal just a few words long, like a mantra (“Exercise 15 mins. Daily”), and post it up on your wall or refrigerator. Post it at home and work. Put it on your computer desktop. You want to have big reminders about your goal, to keep your focus and keep your excitement going. A picture of your goal (like a model with sexy abs, for example) also helps.
- think about your goal every day
- If you are having a hard time getting started, it may be because you’re thinking too big. If you want to exercise, for example, you may be thinking that you have to do these intense workouts 5 days a week. No — instead, do small, tiny, baby steps. Just do 2 minutes of exercise. I know, that sounds wimpy. But it works. Commit to 2 minutes of exercise for one week. You may want to do more, but just stick to 2 minutes. It’s so easy, you can’t fail. Do it at the same time, every day. Just some crunches, 2 push ups, and some jogging in place. Once you’ve done 2 minutes a day for a week, increase it to 5, and stick with that for a week. In a month, you’ll be doing 15-20.

Just start with lowering your calories a little at a time. Count how much you eat one day then start to lower it each day or week by whatever your comfortable with. Your hunger will subside and when you get to low low calories your hunger will be gone. Keep eating though haha. I went from 3000 to like 1500 and these days I have to remember to eat cuz my hunger disappeared. Took me a month.
