Need some advice

Hi there looking for some good advice from you guys about my predicament. I work full time 9 till 5, then I hit the gym every other day for about 2 n’ half hours; So I don’t get home until about 8.30 on the gym nights. I’m also planning on doing some extra training on the nights off the gym… lol… I am mad. On the two week nights I’m gonna do capoeria and aikido. And then I go rock climbing on Saturdays.

My problem really at the moment is… I’m stuck for the amount of hours in the day… anyone got plans for a time machine??? Ok I thought that would be a long shot… alas if you don’t ask..

But really this is what I need some help with… on the gym nights I don’t get in till 8.30 – 9 o’clock. And I do vigorous exercise making it hard to eat before going to the gym, because I’d be sick. In all the magazines and books it says not to eat after 6; but I only eat breakfast (bowl of cereal), mid morning snack (fruit), and then a sandwich for lunch. I’m a bit worried that I’m not getting enough vitamins and nutrients in my diet. As well as not enough food for energy. I’m trying to put on some bulk, and also strip off some fat. I’ve been back in the gym now for about 2 months, and so far so good. I’m just after some advice; do you think that it’s ok to eat when I get in at that time of night? And also do you think I should be introducing protein shakes or other professional training aids into my diet?

Muchos gracias Andy..

You need to eat before you workout no matter what time it is. You should be getting around 1g of protein per pound of body weight. And guessing from your diet you probally don't get that much, so a protein shake would help you. Also, get a multi-vitamin. I know you're not posting about your workout, but 2 and a half hours is a long time to workout, what all do you do in a workout?

Tips ??

Okay Andy, first of all you are not eating nearly enough. Eating 5-6 meals a day would be beneficial to you. Have a portion of protein and a portion of carbs with each meal. Drink plenty of water. I'm not sure I have ever heard about the "do not eat after 6 P.M." thing. I've heard that you should cut out most carbs after 6. Is that 100% accurate ? I'm sure people would have different opinions. Ayway, you need to eat more, that much I AM sure off. :) As KCA mentioned 2 1/2 hours seems like a LONG workout. Post what your workout consist of, maybe we can help modify it for ya. Good lusk to ya

The reason they say not to eat, or not to eat carbs after 6 is becuase most people do little to nothing after this time, which means they don't burn off as many cals then that gets stored as fat. But since you are working out at night it doesnt apply to you

Ah... Ok cheers guys.

My workout usually consists of about 1 1/2 hours cardio,
Then on a Monday I work my arms and abs for about an hour
Wednesday I do my chest, legs and abs
And Friday I do my back, shoulders and abs.

I get what you’re saying about the not eating after 6 now. It makes more sense.

I’m good with that amount of training in the evenings. I used to play rugby, and am relatively fit at the moment. It’s just that I had a nasty mountain bike accident about 2 years ago. I thought that it would be hard to get back into that amount of training, but it’s ok.

Any thoughts about what the best protein shakes to get would be?

I’m trying to lose some excess body fat. At the moment I’m 167 pounds, not sure how much of that is body fat… I’m guessing around 15-20%. I wanna drop it to about 156, to strip off some of the unwanted fat… then I’ll beef up the weights a little.
Ideally I wanna be 160 pounds and about 7-10% body fat. I don’t want to get to big
