Hiya everyone, need some help...which exercise is the best?? As you know from previous posts...Im trying to lose weight and suffer badly with cellulite...so if I can find exercises that will help this that would be great. At home I have a treadmill (currently used as a clothes hanger...lol), a mini stepper, some hand and ankle weights, a step and video, and a push bike (which i have been trying to use 3 times a week. So....whats the best thing to do and for how long?? Im willing to put in the effort...just need a little help on where to start and which is the best thing to use. Its mainly all my bottom half that needs attention. Would be glad to hear from anyone...thank you...Mandie xx

Cellulite has been found to be indistinguishable from ordinary fat in every medical and scientific test. It is not proven whether any cosmetic lotion, massager or pills can reduce/increase cellulite versus ordinary fat. The only known way to reduce the appearance of cellulite is to reduce overall body fat by altering diet or exercise

Hi Mandie

I'm no expert, so take whatever I have to suggest in that context :). However you do it - good luck to you, its achievable and you are taking control!

Cellulite is body fat. To reduce weight, we have to cut calories. However, its all too easy to accidentally lose weight from muscle and non-fat mass as well as lose it from the body fat. This actually damages our chances of long-term weightloss, as it reduces our metabolism. Therefore we exercise - not just to burn calories, but to maintain our muscle and cardio-respiratory system, and to fuel our metabolism.

Any cardio exercise would be great. Strength training would be a great bonus, as it would help you to protect that metabolism as your calorie cutting and cardio burns away at the fat. What I personally would recommend is that you find forms of exercise that you could seriously continue long-term and post-weightloss. This might be walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, gym, yoga, dance etc. I like going to gym, but it seems to me that most gym users are there regular for a matter of days, weeks, or months at best. The hardcore of long-term gym users are rarer beasts. Find something that you enjoy doing - be it inside the gym, at home, or outdoors!

Well walking and jogging works best for me. I have lost 50lbs doing it.
I also started the gym. 4 day on and one off. Hope this helps

I agree with ToothlessFerrett- try out a lot of different things and find something that you like! You might want to try out cleaning off your treadmill and using that first off!

There is no one best exercise.

Remember, we're all individuals...so what works for me might leave you cold. Exercise is only effective if you actually do it...and if you hate it, the chances are, you won't last at it.

Years ago, I found that lifting weights and that was all....really helped me lose weight. Nowadays, that doesn't seem to be true; my body still wants to hold onto its beloved fat. So I also now do aerobics as well.

For me, walking in the morning works...as does exercise tapes (I'm currently in Taebo mode). I also do weight lifting too but nowhere near the point I used to.

So you should try out different things and see how your body and emotions react to them. And remember - it's a journey, not a one shot deal....so keep your eyes on the long-term goals as well as the short term goals.

Don't "go on a diet" - that will never work, as when you're "off the diet" you'll just gain the weight back. But if you change your eating lifestyle to something you can live with, then you'll be ahead of the pack.

Change your mental outlook on getting healthy...and that will help too.

My comments,

I agree that the best exercise for you is one that you will do. I wore out a treadmill but always hated it. Now I usually walk or ride the staionary bike so I can read. (or you could watch tv) I lift weights every other day for upper body strength. It works.

hey Mandie, i started exercising 2 months ago when i found melaluca, their a wellness company and they have some products to help with weightloss, in particular their access bar, it helps to burn your stored fat first for energy before anything else when you exercise. if you would like to know more i would be happy to tell you

From personal experience, the treadmill is the place to start. You don't have to start out by running a million miles or even a very fast pace, just try to keep progressing from week to week. A little longer/faster etc..
Worked for me.

This is the recommended amount of exercise for weight loss:

30-90 minutes cardio most days
30 min strength training 2-3 times weekly

I used an aerobic workout with weights called the Firm. I love the series (especially the older stuff). It works!!! I like the shorter 30-45 minute workouts. Weights are really important for weight loss and bone density. Even light dumbells are great. Lost 50lbs doing it 3 times a week
