Need some advice on Supplements!

In the past, the closest i've come to taking supplements was just eating and drinking right so beyond looking up the general info i'd appreciate if someone can push me in the right direction of what i should start with...

i'm 27 and up until this year i was always in good shape, around 165-170lb's (i'm 5'11).. im all the way up to 190 and it's def time to make some changes and get back into working out before it gets out of hand...

i was thinking about taking creatine and whey protein while obviously eating and drinking better while doing a cycle of p90x until i move and can join a gym...

i was thinking something like these

Universal-Creatine-Chews-Grape-144-Count

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard - Double Chocolate

I've heard so many different variations of taking them but with the little bit of research i've done so far i was going to do something like this to start out...

5g of Creatine 30 minutes before working out

Whey Protein after working out

Would that be good to start out with? I'd like to eventually add Glutamine as well but money is going to be a bit tight until i get moved.. Any suggestions would def be appreciated.. I'm still taking this all in so my knowledge on it all is still pretty simple at this point...

My biggest hurdle is that im a recording engineer/producer so my hours are odd and many times last through the night so it's nearly impossible to make an exact daily routine but i can get close if i work out later at night...

Read this sticky on creatine. Most people don't actually understand what the stuff actually is and end up wasting their money on constant large doses. Be sure to understand the maintenance and loading phases. Also, creatine is slow-acting, so it doesn't matter what time you take it in relation to your workout. It's a long-term supplement.

As for whey protein, go for it. If you're planning to have another meal within a couple hours of your workout, though, there's really no point to it. Just make sure you're sticking to 25-30g at once. (And up to ~2g/kg body weight/day.)

And glutamine is absolutely useless. Research has shown zero effects of it on the body. Save your money.

Glutamine is an essential amino acid, a major building block of the muscles and the body. It is considered to be the most abundant free amino acid, and it is technically considered to be a semi-essential amino acid. This means that normally, the body can manufacture glutamine on its own and the body can normally meet its own basic demands.

Please show me your studies that shows that glutamine is useless? It's an amino acid which we all no is key to repairing broken down muscle tissue.

Sorry, I meant to say that glutamine supplements are useless. True, you need some glutamine in your diet for the regular amino acid functions, but the claim that additional glutamine ingestion increases the immune system, aids in additional performance, and increases growth more than other protein supplements is unfounded.

No effect of glutamine supplementation and hyperoxia on oxidative metabolism and performance during high-intensity exercise (Marwood & Bowtell, 2008).

Addition of glutamine to essential amino acids and carbohydrate does not enhance anabolism in young human males following exercise (Wilkinson, Kim, Armstrong, & Phillips, 2006).

Please show your studies that prove Glutamine supplementation IS beneficial for anyone except AIDS/Cancer patients and burn ward victims...Because everything I've seen in the last 10 years says L-glutamine supplementation doesn't benefit healthy athletes.

Skip the creatine chews and just go with plain 100% pure creatine monohydrate, which runs about $17 per 500grams which is a 100 day supply. When you take it doesn't matter one bit, its all about taking it consistently (daily) to build up saturation in the muscles.
I like to toss mine in the post-workout shake simply because its convenient.

Your Whey selection is fine.

Agree with Jrahien. Glutamine supplements are useless and way over-hyped.
