Hi! Sorry, I don't know which category I could put this on. I'm new here and too lazy to check... XD

Anyways!

I have been overweight almost all my life. I am a female, 5'4 and weighing at 155 pounds. I want to lose weight, so I could be more confident (I guess) in life. And to show my father how very wrong he was (As you can discern by now, I have family problems). I love eating and dancing. I could probably dance 2-3 hours everyday without stopping for anything. But I could also eat like hell.

Recently, my parents had a sudden rift that left me and my mom packing for Japan. It would only be for 6-7 months, though, so that would leave me about 183 days to sit around and wonder what I'm doing with my life... XD

I have been researching on how to lose weight for the past few days, so here's few I learned:

~ Avoid sweets and the whites---rice, bread, cereal, etc.

~ Sleep 8 hours a day

~ Exercise at least 3-4 times a week

~ Drink lots of water

~ Substitute junk foods with fruits

~ Don't overeat, but don't starve yourself either

~ Count your calorie intake everyday

Now, most of them seemed easy enough, I think. But do I have to count the calories on every food I intake? 'Cause that's just so... girly. And a lot of work (I'm lazy with those kinds of things; sue me). If someone could write down foods that I could eat without worrying much would be helpful. And with the sleep thing... I have trouble sleeping at night. Usually I sleep at 5 a.m. and wake up 8/9 in the morning. Suggestions on how I could break that habit would be very much appreciated (I have tried counting sheep, so no. Just no).

Also, can dancing be a substitute exercise for walking/running/jogging? My mom is super protective, especially now that we are going to a different country, so she'll never let me out without her...

I really want to lose weight. I'm growing tired of seeing myself in the mirror with the same fat, ugly body. I want to change myself while I'm still young, so I'll be able to enjoy life more.

Thank you for sharing your time! ^ ^

If you are too lazy counting calories, you better get used to being overweight.

Yes, you have to count EVERYTHING you put into your mouth.

Dancing can be a substitute to jogging/running but again it depends on intensity, duration etc.

Try having some warm milk or something before heading to bed.

Do you have anyone that you can talk to about your stresses? It sounds like a lot of what you're dealing with could be helped by learning how to better cope with stress.

A lot of the things that you listed are good things to follow to in terms of general health, but just following that may or may not help you to lose weight. As HyungJun said, counting calories (everything that you eat) may be what you need to do. You might not have to do this for the long term, but you will learn a lot throught the process and it may help you the most. And no, counting calories is not "girly." NOT counting calories may just be leaving the door open for making excuses about not losing weight.
