Need help with my diet and exercise plan

I'm consuming 350 calories a day. I eat a small plate full of leafy green salad mix, tomatoes and cucumber with some fat free salad dressing. I add a tin of drained tuna in springwater to the salad for protein.

The only liquids I'm drinking are water and one black coffee in the morning with no sweetner.

I'm aiming for as little carbs as possible and am trying to have as much protein as I can.

As for my exercise plan, I'm an avid Billy Blanks DVD workout fan. Monday - Wednesday I'll start the day off with Billy's Bootcamp which involves squats, lunges, pushups and weight lifting. It really gets the heart going and it's a great cardio workout.

In the evening I'll do Billy's Tae Bo Fat Blaster workout which involves alot of stretching, kicks and weight lifting.

Thursday and Friday I'll just do the Bootcamp DVD in the morning. Saturday I take off to rest. Sunday I'll go for a brisk walk for 45 minutes - hour.

I'm 5'3, female and weigh 171 pounds. My goal weight is 143 pounds.

I'm looking for any feedback about fine tuning my diet and exercise plan. What I'm doing at the moment is working, I'm dropping around 5 pounds a week. Although I'd be very interested to hear any constructive feedback to help improve/fast track my weight loss. Thank you.

You are only eating 350 a day?

You are an idiot. Yeah, I said it.

Cutting your calories to that level will destroy you. Stop trying to kill yourself over the fast track. You have the completely wrong mindset for healthy weight loss. You have the mindset of someone with an eating disorder.

Here are the blunt facts. It's not a race. 5 pounds a week is unhealthy for you. 1-2..3 tops really a week is better. All that will happen here is you hurt your body and you will regain the weight.

How about focusing on eating healthy in a way you will for the rest of your life. Try the mentality of slow and steady. You are eating too little carbs/fats/proteins. BALANCE.

What you are doing is pretty much a crash diet.

Hey, you seem to have some misunderstandings with weight loss. You aren't an 'idiot' because sometimes weight loss isn't as simple as we all make it out to be and the media really tries to make you believe their skewed facts. What you're doing is starving yourself and eating into those fad-facts about dieting.

First of all, 350 calories is maybe 1/3 of the minimum a female should be eating. The rule of thumb is to eat less than you consume, but it goes deeper than this. If you starve yourself then your metabolism will slow down and you will be losing the same amount of weight if you were going 1300 calories probably, but feel much much much worst. You want long term weight loss, and a drastic plan like that is not long term. You will lose muscle mass, even if you eat pure protein and exercise. When you gain the weight back, you will have more fat than before because fat comes back easily, muscle does not.

Next, you really shouldn't cut out carbs. Carbs are our immediate source of energy and allow us to maintain our daily activity. Sure our body will borrow fat and protein when carbs are low, but your body will be under a lot of stress. Carbs should make up the majority of your diet, protein next then you also need fats believe it or not. (50% carbs, 40% protein and 10% fat is fairly good if you do regular exercise). It doesn't matter where you get your calories from, protein and carbs both turn to fat if you don't use them.

Finally, you want to aim for 2 pounds a week loss if you're dedicated. 3 pounds a week is a real stretch and requires a lot of work and a very balanced diet. Weight loss takes time and there are no shortcuts if you want to stay fit.

You have a fair exercise regime, don't change that. What you want to do is eat more and eat better. Chicken, fish, beans, greens, fruits, grains eat those and don't be afraid of carbs.

Hi Leasha,

I'm curious - how do you feel? Do you feel tired, energetic, in-between, etc? How long have you been doing this diet/exercise regime? I do think that you are not eating enough to supplement all that exercise that you are doing but am wondering whether your body might be burning itself out. Take care of yourself, and don't be afraid to eat more. Get plenty of rest (sleep is good!!), and drink lots of water.

That diet will grind you down. No question whatsoever. That is eating disorder levels if intake.

Aim for 1500 cals / day with a trip to the gym every other day and you'll see smaller numbers every week when you weigh.

5lbs a week is unrealistic for all but the largest people and even then it's unsustainable. I started at over 250lbs and didn't ever drop 5lbs in a week. And yes I felt hungry as I adjusted to sensible portions. I think 12lbs/month was my best rate of loss.

Good luck but try to be less demanding. Remember that dropping pounds is one thing. Can you keep up the healthy lifestyle afterward to maintain a lower weight?

First of all...how can you be aiming for as little carbs as possible and as much protein as you can get with only intaking 350 calories in one day? I mean, a relatively small portion of chicken will give you nearly 350 calories on it's own. I uh...I don't get it. Who told you to do this? Give me their name, so I can take a huge dump in their pillowcase. Why? Because, whoever told you this is a shithead and deserves to sleep as such.

Secondly...350 calories is not NEARLY enough. Just to give you an idea as to how LITTLE you are eating, 350 calories is pretty much the equivalent of consuming 2 cans of Pepsi per day. And, if you think you can survive on 2 cans of soda per day, then you need to educate yourself on caloric intake, vitamins, nutrients and the overall health of the human body. Seriously, what you are doing is DANGEROUS.

Multiply your diet by 6.

You're already losing 5 lbs a WEEK, but you want to lose weight even faster than that? Wow...umm...research health, honey. You're going to kill yourself if you keep this up. It's not healthy.

I'd recommend reading through the stickys on the forum to help educate yourself on proper health and nutrition. Because, what you're doing at the moment is not working. Read through the stickys to find out why.

Thanks for your replies. I'm really not interested in consuming more calories, I feel fine with what I'm eating. I'm taking multivitamins and folate tablets to suppliment my low calorie diet.

My doctor is aware of my diet and is fine with what I'm eating, I get a blood test done every 6 weeks to check that my nutritional requirements are getting met.

In terms of gaining back weight, it's not on the cards. I'm a lap band patient with very good restriction. You essentially lose your hunger when you have a good fill, it's an extremely powerful tool that is helping me with the weight loss.

It's a very rewarding feeling knowing that a pound lost is a pound lost forever, there is no going back on the diet merry go round. I'm sure everyone can identify with how frustrating it is with maintaining a healthy weight.

I'm glad that everyone here is losing weight on 1200+ calories a day, I'm really happy with how my weight is tracking along at 350 calories a day and my doctor is too. =)

I don't believe anything you just said. NO doctor is going to be happy with one of their patients consuming only 350 calories per day. That's not even enough calories to nutritionally and healthily support a 1 year old child, let alone a full grown adult.

So, no...I don't believe you.

And, if what you are saying is true and your doctor truly is happy with what you're eating, then they're the world's worst doctor and I hope somebody reports them to the medical board, because they're a complete fucking moron and they deserve to lose their license immediately.

Your caloric intake is absolutely ridiculous and I honestly find it hard to believe that anybody in the medical profession would support your eating habits. Keep eating 350 calories per day if you want to, but don't expect anybody to feel sorry for you if you get ridiculously sick or if you rebound like crazy and gain all of your weight back as soon as you start eating normally.

Why do you have a lap band if your weight is 171lbs at 5'3"?

I thought lap-bands were only recommended for people with a BMI of 40+? Yours is 30 and would need to be 230lbs+ to have a BMI of 40 or better.

If you really do have a lap-band then why not mention it in the OP? Surely you'd have thought it worthy of mentioning it when describing your situation?

It seems to me that you're a troll and a poor one at that.

Ok, so you completely failed to give us CRUCIAL information in your first post: Lap band.

Lap band (and other weight loss surgery) diets are very different from regular diets.

That said, I will reiterate what others have said. Your expectations are unrealistic and you're on the way to badly damaging your health.

I completely agree with everyone else, any doctor that would be okay with only 350 calories a day is completely retarded and needs to stop practicing medicine. Doctors are suppose to be a good judgment for their patient's and in this case that is not a good judgement at all. I know it can be frustrating to not lose the weight as fast as you want too but it is not going to happen overnight. I learned that because I quit before because I was not seeing results fast enough but I am back in the game now. I have about 60lbs to lose and it will probably take me a good year to lose it but honey you have got to look out for yourself and being stubborn is going to get you nowhere because you will be very disappointed when all the weight comes back and bites you in the ass. Take everyone's advice and do it the right way before you kill yourself. Also what is your doctor's name and number so that I can call him and tell him what a jackass he is!
