Hello Everyone,

I just have a question, I am not understanding what my calorie intake should be to sufficiently lose weight while I diet and exercise. When I had my personal trainer I was doing strength training 3 days a week for 30 minute sessions and I did cardio for an hour 7 days a week and I was on a diet, he told me then that my calorie intake should have been like 3,000 calories a day because of how much I was doing. I did the BMR and it said 1600 calories. With the BMR is that what your calorie intake should be? I am so confused, someone please help, I just need to know so that I can plan my diet. Thank you for the help.

My guess is your trainer overestimated your activity level. While you were doing a lot of exercise, it still doesn't put you at the level of a professional athlete.

At any rate, those calculations only provide an estimate for when you are starting your diet. They have to be adjusted based on real world observations.

You have apparently been dieting for a while, so you should already know if you are eating enough or too much. It's as if you were going on a trip and using your car's EPA mileage estimate and fuel gauge to tell you when you are at your destination. No, you wouldn't do it that way. You'd just look out the window.

To add to what Harold said .. .I don't know what your current weight is, but I weigh 170 and on days that I work out hard (weights plus cardio) I burn around 2600 calories. (That's been verified using a BodyBugg and then backed up using my HRM and some manual calculations.) The most I've EVER burned in a single day, doing a full workout plus painting my downstairs was 2800. And that was 10-12 hours of standing, stretching, climbing ladders, painting, moving ladders, climbing again, etc. Plus a morning workout and run.

So ... I do find it really hard to believe that you're burning 3000 calories a day on a consistent level unless you're superhuman or weigh a heck of a lot more than I do (like nearly double). :)
